For some, staying on track might require letting go of certain habits, sacrificing pleasures and fun time, proper time management among others.

Rapid Growth requires lots of commitment, focus, and knowledge. All these factors cannot be achieved alone. As the popular saying goes “No man is an island of Knowledge”.

That helping hand that can help you push beyond boundaries

Everyone at a certain point in life needs someone to lean on, someone whose wings we can fly with, someone whose story can re-ignite our dying passion and lead us to our promised land. This is where having an accountability partner comes in.

Personally, my records show that I have achieved most goals I set with an accountability partner.

In simple terms, goal accountability simply means understanding the end result of a goal and staying ultimately focused by daily scrutiny till it is achieved.

Staying ultimately focused on a goal or plan can be tiring and frustrating especially when plans don’t fall in place as expected, but having an accountability partner makes staying focused a bit easy.

So, the next question in mind is how do I choose an Accountability partner?

QUALITIES OF A GOOD ACCOUNTABILITY PARTNER AND WHY WE ALL NEED ONE

Not everyone can be an accountability partner. Most times, we make the mistake of choosing our friends, family, or someone randomly out of sentiments without understanding the roles they come to play.

The following qualities must be possessed by any good accountability partner:

• Must always be available:

The difference between a mentor and an accountability partner is Availability. A mentor might not always be available to listen and follow up regularly but it is different for a good accountability partner.

Your partner must have a fixed time for you

An accountability partner must be readily available upon an agreed timing to monitor your progress and keep tabs on you regularly.

Any accountability partner that is not available is not a good one and can be seen as a mentor instead.

Therefore, it is important that before you choose anyone as your accountability partner, he/she must be fully aware and available when needed. This doesn’t mean you should disturb them every time knowing fully well that they have their own life to live too but ensure you both have a fixed, workable method for steady communication.

Availability shows a great sign that they have your best interest at heart.

Good listening ears are like gold, only a few possess

• Must have good listening ears:

It is one thing to be available, it is another to have good listening skills. An accountability partner must be one who is ready to listen to your complains, your wins, and lose.

Any accountability partner without good listening skills will get tired easily and in the long run, lose interest. Good listening skills come with patience, wisdom, and controlled words.

Must be able to sit and solve problems together

• A good problem solver:

Another quality a good accountability partner must have is the ability to solve problems.

Have you ever had this friend you enjoy sharing problems or difficulties with and they just have ways of solving problems?
Those friends are potential accountability partners.

I mean, what’s the need of sharing your problems with someone if they can’t brainstorm with you and help proffer lasting solutions.

Must be a firm supporter and Cheerleader

• Teamwork:

Above all qualities, an accountability partner must be able to collaborate, keep tabs on each other, motivate and encourage as a teammate should. You both become each other cheerleaders, cheering each other to greatness.

A partner who won’t be jealous of your rapid progress and is ready to support you through it all.
