Kyiv. Rain on the Maidan

On June 10, 2012, we found ourselves on Independence Square [//]:# (!pinmapple 50.450021 lat 30.522689 long d3scr) at about 11 o'clock in the morning. It was Sunday. Summer morning suddenly turned into late evening, or even night. Dark clouds came, completely covering the sun and streams of water rushed from the sky, flooding everything around.

10 червня 2012 року ми опинилися на Майдані Незалежності [//]:# (!pinmapple 50.450021 lat 30.522689 long d3scr) приблизно об 11 годині ранку. Це була неділя. Літній ранок раптово перетворився на пізній вечір, а то й ніч. Налетіли темні хмари, повністю закривши сонце і з неба ринули потоки води, заливаючи все навколо.

At that time, the capital, like the whole country, was preparing for Euro 2012 - the European Football Championship. A fan zone had already been set up in the center of Kyiv, everything was decorated with flags and banners, and policemen were patrolling around.

У той час столиця, як і вся країна, готувалася до проведення Євро-2012 - чемпіонату Європи з футболу. У центрі Києва була вже змонтована фан-зона, все було прикрашено прапорами, банерами, навколо патрулювали міліціонери.

Everyone rushed to hide from the downpour - some in underground passages, some in open shops or cafes, and many under the canopy of the Kyiv Main Post Office. By the way, this place is one of the symbols of Kyiv, near which an incredible number of appointments were made.

Від зливи все кинулися ховатися - хто в підземні переходи, хто в відкриті магазинчики або кафешки, а багато під навіс київського Головпоштамту. До речі це місце, є одним із символів Києва, біля якого було призначено неймовірну кількість побачень.

Opposite was the House of Trade Unions, with a clock still working and a huge monitor, where football-themed videos were broadcast.

Навпроти виднівся Будинок профспілок, з тоді ще працюючими годинником та величезним монітором, де транслювалися ролики на футбольну тематику.

After a while, the downpour ended, the light broke through the thick clouds, and Kyiv's Maidan was filled with people again.

Через деякий час злива закінчилася, світло пробилося крізь густі хмари, і київський Майдан знову наповнився людьми.
