THERE'S ROOM FOR CHANGE IN MY COUNTRY

pexels-photo-8445454.jpegsource
The "Giants of Africa" they used to call us untill our pride started to eat us up , leaving us as shadows of our former selves. If I was born to a whole different country it would have been a different tale entirely but still I love it here, I love the food, I love the rich cultures prevalent here, I love the spirit, I love the entertainment industry that's slowly taking over the world, I love Nigeria, the most populous Black country in the world. You'll hardly find us slacking in any way, like the popular Nigerian saying goes:

We no dey ever carry last

I didn't want to go to sleep when I started to write this but then they took the light leaving me in total darkness. I try to continue but the beautiful melodies of the mosquitoes put me to sleep. I'm dozing off as I write this last line, hoping that I'll find comfort in my bed.

Yawn, they're a lot of things I'll like to change in my country if given the power. Things that really need to be addressed in order to shapen the future of this great nation. It just feels like I was asked a trivial question like:

If you are the president of Nigeria in a day, what would you do?

I've thought carefully about the answer to this question a number of times before and each time there prevalent issues that must be addressed. So here are a some of the things that I'll like to change if given the power and authority.

1. Bad Governance

images (12).jpegsource

This is one of the biggest problems my country is facing right now, and I must say it is quite alarming. Right from the end of the colonial rule to this very moment, Nigeria has been rapidly infected by corruption. Corruption is the order of the day, and each day members of the ruling system in their big Agbadas, big tummiesand native caps with Ghana must go bags filled with embezzled money, money that should be used for the betterment of the masses. At the end of the day they end up tagging the youths as lazy.

If I really had the power to make a change, I'll surely change the Governance of Nigeria. The previous generations and old cargoes at the top have helped us in ruining this country with their corrupt practices and God-fatherism. I'll love for more room to be maid available for the youths to have access to Governance. Any individual older than forty-five years would be made to retire and paid pension. In that way we'll be able to see minds that are proactive and well inclined with changing trends being able to direct the affairs of the country. It doesn't guarantee that things would be better, but there is no way of finding out until it is implemented.

2. Over Population

images (13).jpegsource

Currently, the country Nigeria ranks 7th in the list of most populated countries in the world with an estimated population of over 200million people, yeah you heard that right and Her population keeps growing on a daily. More and more little kids are born into the world through parents that cannot even sustain themselves. It's alarming to see the rate at which people just reproduce ignorantly without any plan or proper means of livelihood.

The rate of poverty keeps increasing on a daily owing to corruption and underutilization of the nations resources. The discovery of oil had lead to a lot of greedy decisions being made by power in power. The standard of living gets higher on a daily and they're not even jobs to cater for the many unemployed youths.

So if I had the chance to make changes, it'll first have to start with enlightening the public about birth control and why it is important to reduce the amount of children being born to each family. It'll be a compulsory addition to every school curriculum, so that the next generation won't suffer like we're suffering. Imagine a Nigeria where the popular is a lot smaller when compared with the readily available resources, and these resources are utilized rightly and wealth is distributed evenly. This is the type Nigeria I yearn to see.

3. Poor Education Sector

For someone who's had to cram a 50 page material all in the aim of passing an exam that the lecturer hardly taught anything. I'll surely see a need for a change in the educational sector. I think it's too rigid and is subject to a lot of changes. Most of the syllabus in use are same with the ancient ones that were left behind by the British colony and it's no surprise how much the world is changing on a daily basis. How then do we expect to grow if we're still in the past?

If you go to a university research unit you'll see that they're lacking in equipment, staff and finding which is the case with a lot of other sectors in the educational system. We have a lot of bright minds like the likes Chinua Achebe, Prof. Woke Soyinka to name a few. They're a lot more amazing minds and talents being wasted on unproductive educational facilities. A student goes to school, finishes and comes out with nothing to show. His years are all a waste.

If I had to change something, I'll change the ancient educational traditions and make room for the best and latest forms of educational facilities. Students would be taught digitally, and the system wouldn't be too rigid. They'll be room for leisure alongside learning, it'll all be a fun experience. There would be no need for anyone to read himself to death all in the name of passing one course or the other. Proper policies would be put in place and the educational system would own a substantial part of the budget. That'll help grow the future generations and help them adapt in a rapidly growing world.

They're really a lot of things that would require a lot of changes in my country, each and every day we clamour for this change and hopefully we hope to see this changes soon. It's going to happen someday, we have this conviction that our prayers would be answered some day and we'll live the lives we were meant to live someday. One day we'll go back to our Giant days and continue to lead in terms of development and economic prowess.

I stan Nigeria and I hope every Nigerian here on Hive will do too.

Nice post bro. Nigeria doesn’t need a room for change, it needs a space bigger than a room. The problem too much

The issue of bad governance is the root of all our problems here in Nigeria
Okay I like the part of birth
control because if we keep increasing like this without good governance I pray we do not become a country with high crime rate.
