SINGAPORE WET MARKET IN COVID-19 PANDEMIC | 疫情之下的湿巴刹
Hello everybody,
How are you getting on?
What are you doing during the weekend? No matter is outdoor or indoor activities, most important is to enjoy the free time with your family and your love one.
Last weekend I walked to a nearest park for morning exercise and then I went to Teck Ghee Wet Market to buy some vegetables and to pack breakfast home.
I was lucky to meet good weather, what a sunny and windy Sunday morning. As per my plan, I able to visit this park for my morning exercise before go to my next destination, Teck Ghee Wet Market.
It is the only place we could take down our face marks to take deep breath and get close to nature. The lush greenery views with planted mature trees that providing shade to parks users. We enjoyed jogging and walking on the walkways in this park.
After morning exercise, it was about 8am, I walked through a neighbourhood garden to wet market for my grocery purchasing.
After 10 minutes’ walk, I reached Teck Ghee Market. But there were not that crowded as previous time. Because of Covid-19 pandemic, the increasing of new cases cause less crowd to visit the wet market.
Recently Singapore achieve 82% full vaccination rate, therefore government resume the economy step by step, and allowed more activities in community. But this “new normal” cause the increasing of new cases up to 2000 and above.
Based on MOH data, 98% of patients are mild symptoms or no symptoms, home recovery programme are practicing currently to control the over loading in the hospitals and health care centres.
Continue my journey, I reached Block 338. There were many temporary small kiosks arranged in front of the shop lots which selling many daily supplies, local food, kueh kueh, bakery cakes, clothes, and so on.
Compare with previous time before Covid pandemic, currently Teck Ghee Market is less busy and less crowded during the weekend. The business owner affected due to current situation.
Continue my journey, I arrived the entrance of wet market. We can easier find many things in wet market with reasonable price. That’s why I like to visit wet market sometime that I could grab the things I needed and same time save cost for my daily budget.
Only in wet market I could purchase my fresh tofu without manufacture packaging and additional ingredients. But I have to cook and eat fresh at the same day as it can’t be keeping too long.
Many elderly people like to visit wet market as most of stuffs are fresh made and cheaper.
Due to Covid-19 pandemic safety measure, the wet market is remarked by the entry and exit direction to lead people flow in same direction and control the people capacity.
After buying some vegetables and packed breakfast, I passed by another block with beautiful mural art painting.
The lively and lovely mural art painting showing the Kampung houses on years 1970-1980 century. The timber and wooden material of building design, and the stilt house which has strong nostalgia Kampung spirit.
Before I walked back home, I saw this signage “BEWARE of your SURROUNDINGS”. Even though life in Singapore is quite safe and comfortable, but less crime doesn’t mean no crime. Sometimes have to be alert and aware of the surroundings.
Happy weekend! Thank you.
Love and Support #Marketfriday and @dswigle :))
That park looks beautiful
That’s impressive Singapore has such a high vaccination rate allowing things to start returning to some normality
Thanks for sharing your walk and visit to the Market

Yes. Here already achieved 82% full vaccination rate and resume economy. But new cases of Covid19 are increased a lot.
Thank you @tattoodjay. My pleasure to join @wednesdaywalk. Have a nice weekend! :)))
You to have a nice weekend
I loved your post and reminded my Singapore Experience. I used to stay in Bedok near to MRT .Singapore is actually one of the cleanest city in the world if i answer in one sentence. Beautiful Marina Bay Square and 3 tower hotels with beautiful ambience always mesmerised me .I lived in SG more than 8 years but due to pendemic i had to return to my hometown in India. Singapore Markets are very presentable ,Many variety of foods like Malay ,Chinese, Indian, Philipenos ,Indonesian all easily available . I used to go to Bufallo Road in Little India where market called Tekka Center ,very well known Wet Market. Hope to see SG again once situation under control.
Hello @sand126, thank you for dropping by and shared your experience in Singapore.
Yes, many of foreigners are back to their countries due to many companies cutting job during this pandemic.
Hopefully the situation will get back soon after transition of living with Covid as new normal.
Stay safe and healthy. Have a nice weekend. Thank you
@cherryng 听闻新加坡的疫情有反弹的迹象,你和@auleo要照顾好自己!
好的。谢谢@wilhb81 😊
What a wonderful morning you had! I love being one with nature and getting daily exercise as well. How perfect!
Your wet market is a place that seems so well organized! They even have arrows all set up to keep the flow moving in one direction. Are the prices that much better than the regular market? I know in Vietnam it is, and I suppose that is the case with most of the Asian markets. It is a busy, yet relaxed atmosphere and I am certainly glad you got your chance to go. I love the murals! Singapore is one of the safest places I know of, but, honestly, crime can happen, give the right circumstances!
Thank you so much! I love your posts!
I love the concept of #MarketFriday and how our cultures differ and then again, how much they are alike. Rituals, Festivals, food, architecture, even your language/languages. Along with the fact of what is normal for where you live? these are unwritten rules that rule our social behaviors. I see this as allowing for increased tolerance between cultures and nations, and opportunities to come together on an even playing ground. A strong culture can be beneficial to a country as it promotes unity, especially during a crisis, peaceful debate, and open dialogue. I had hoped that posting here will familiarize you with the world around you just a little bit more. Viewing it from a more personal level as opposed to the newsworthy level gives me a better understanding of the people and a view that is often not seen on National television.
I appreciate the amazing support given to #MarketFriday! Thank you! Your participation adds a piece of your world, and I have to say, people are interested in seeing it. This entire challenge has opened up the world to me and so many others. Thank you again for being a part of all this! I am so happy to see you here! I hope you have a fabulous day! Hive on!!
Fridays are all about the #MarketFriday Challenge! Looking to take part in it? Here is how:

Thank you @dswigle.
Generally the things selling in wet market are cheaper compared to supermarket. But all items. As sometimes there are some promotion or discount given by supermarkets or hypermarkets too.
Hope you have a nice day!
Support and like @MarketFriday ♥️😄
Thank you for the clarification! I really enjoy learning about the different markets!
