Hello hivers, good day! 😊
How have you been these days? I hope you are fine as well as you are in a good health although we're still in times of pandemic, stay healthy and eat more nutritious foods!

As for healthy foods by the way, BANANA HEART is one of them.

Do you have banana in your place? If yes, have you already tried to cook and mix it with different dishes like fish, meat, sardines or any other? Here in Philippines, there are many types of recipe for banana heart. It can be ginataan, kinilaw, ginisa, or even more. Banana heart can be mixed with any foods. It can be also delicious when you mix with sardines. You should try it too. 😊

I want to share here in this blog today how I prepare our banana heart recipe for our lunch dish last week on Wednesday. I am the scheduled cook to prepare for our lunch in our home that time, but on the next dining, my sister will be the cook. Yes, we're doing household chores such as cooking and washing the dishes ALTERNATIVELY because that's what siblings are. πŸ˜„

By the way the recipe I cooked was 'ginisang puso ng saging with sardines' or banana heart/flower mixed with sardines.

HERE ARE MY COMPLETE INGREDIENTS:

  • Banana heart
  • Young's town sardines
  • Tomatoes, garlic & onions
  • Cooking oil
  • Salt

PROCESS:

  • Peel the banana heart first. Remove the outer peelings (or simply called as the red bracts) until you see the white inner bracts of the banana heart, when you see that, you can now stop peeling because that white bract will be cooked.

  • We need to collect the florets (on the picture below) that was stuck at the red/outer bracts.

  • We need to remove the pistils from the florets.

At first, I don't know yet how to quickly remove multiple pistils from the florets and I thought I should do it one by one. I said to my mother β€œMa help me here, it takes too long to remove the pistils one by one.”
Then she laughed at me then she replied that I don't need to do it one by one, I should use knife to pull out the heads of the pistils. πŸ˜†
Beginners be like hahaha.

Pistils are shaped like matchstick and they are not eaten because these banana heart components are difficult to chew.

  • Slice the white/inner bracts

When you cut or slice the banana heart, it stains your hand because the sap of this was sticky and acrid.

This is my hand after peeling and slicing the banana heart. πŸ˜…

  • Next to do is, wash and squeeze the inner bracts including the cleaned florets.

IMG20210407101921.jpg

My father said I should squeeze them so that the dish won't taste acrid and bitter, because if you squeeze them, the acrid taste will be squeezed and removed.

I am thankful and happy as well that I've learnt tips from the helpful advices of my parents about cooking. πŸ˜„

That's me πŸ˜‚
I asked mom to capture me squeezing just for documentation anyway hahaha, gladly she agreed.

  • Next thing to do is, fry the onion, garlic, and tomato in a hot oil. After you fry them, add the sardines into the pan. Then, add little amount of water.

*If the water was already boiling, you can now put the squeezed banana heart into the cooking pan.
Just cover the pan and wait until the banana heart become soft.

I really hope that time that they liked that food I have prepared for them. I hope as well that it helped relieve the tiredness they feel physically from finishing our home project. πŸ˜„

[I was supposed to post this blog last week right after I made our dish last Wednesday but sadly, I ran out of resource credits :<. So I waited until it gets full. And this is the result of waiting, I'm glad I am now able to post hehe. Patience is the key as they say 😊]

Thank you for stopping by fellow hivers! 😁
Always take care and stay healthy. Hope you had a good day. 😊
