Japan Cultural Week in Venezuela [ENG/ESP]
Hello to everyone in the Ladies of Hive community! Today I present with joy an article dedicated to what was the Japan Week, an event produced by the University of Carabobo in conjunction with the Embassy of Japan in Venezuela, to celebrate the culture of the country of the rising sun. This event had not been held for some years due to some internal problems (perhaps for not finding an adequate space or monetary resources) and after so long it has returned to the city of Valencia. This event took place at the Braulio Salazar Gallery, in the Plaza Fabian de Jesus Diaz. I tell you all about it below.
Japan Week was an event that was held annually in Venezuela in the state of Carabobo. After nine years of pause, this Saturday, January 28, the event was inaugurated by Kenya Uno (Embassy of Japan/Business and Political Affairs) and Ulises Rojas (Academic Vice Rector of the UC) to give way to the extensive schedule of activities. From January 28th to January 30th. Among the activities that took place on Saturday were; drawing workshop (manga and anime), talk about Haiku by the artist Maruja Carrillo (Haiku; the beauty of the brief), Karate demonstration, Kobudo demonstration, introduction to the Japanese language, calligraphy demonstration, origami workshop and bonsai workshop.

El día de hoy les presento con alegría un artículo dedicado a lo que fue La Semana del Japón, un evento producido por la Universidad de Carabobo en conjunto con la Embajada del Japón, en Venezuela, para celebrar la cultura del país del sol naciente. Este evento tenía algunos años sin realizarse debido algunos problemas internos (quizás por no encontrar un espacio adecuado o recursos monetarios) y luego de tanto tiempo a vuelto a la ciudad de Valencia. Este evento tuvo lugar en la Galería Braulio Salazar, en la Plaza Fabián de Jesús Díaz. Les cuento todo sobre ello más abajo.
La Semana del Japón era un evento que se celebraba anualmente en Venezuela en el estado Carabobo. Luego de nueve años de pausa, este sábado 28 de Enero se inauguró el evento en manos de Kenya Uno (Embajada de Japón/Negocios y asuntos políticos) y Ulises Rojas (vicerrector académico de la UC) para dar lugar al extenso cronograma de actividades. Desde el día 28 hasta el 30 de Enero. Entre las actividades que se realizaron el día sabado estuvieron; taller de dibujo (manga y anime), charla sobre el Haiku a manos de la artista Maruja Carrillo (El Haiku; la belleza de lo breve), demostración de Karate, demostración de Kobudo, introducción al idioma Japonés, demostración de Caligrafía, taller de origami y taller de bonsai.
I must say that like many in Valencia, I was looking forward to bringing this event back to the state. So first thing Saturday morning I was with my partner. Then came my mother who also likes these activities. She was doing origami workshops. In addition to the activities they did, there were several stands where you could buy some drawings, sculptures, figures and paintings. There was also a space to consume drinks and food typical of Japan, a restaurant. You could also consult with one of the assistants of the Japanese embassy about the scholarships available for foreigners. That was quite interesting as many young people came to get information about it.
Something I was looking forward to was the presentation of a Youtuber that my partner and I follow, his name is Keito Homma. He is from Japan and loves Venezuela because he spent several years here coaching some teams of the Venezuelan baseball league. So he came back to the country and now he is traveling all over the country, getting to know and recording everything. Here I asked his permission to take a picture with him. He was quite proud of the activities, especially the Karate and Kobudo demonstrations.
Debo decir que al igual que muchos en Valencia, estaba esperando con ansias que nuevamente trajeran este evento al estado. Por lo que el sábado a primera hora estaba con mi pareja. Luego llegó mi madre quién también gusta de estás actividades. Ella se dedicaba a realizar talleres de origami. Además de las actividades que realizaron, habían varios stands dónde podías adquirir algunos dibujos, esculturas, figuras y pinturas. Se añadió un espacio para consumir bebidas y comida típicas de Japón, un restaurante. También podías consultar con alguno de los asistentes de la embajada japonesa sobre las becas de estudio disponibles para los extranjeros. Eso fue bastante interesante pues muchos jóvenes se acercaron para obtener información sobre ello.
Algo que esperaba es que se presentará un Youtuber que seguimos mi pareja y yo, el se llama Keito Homma. Él es de Japón y ama Venezuela pues pasó varios años aquí entrenando a algunos equipos de la liga de beisbol venezolana. Por lo que volvió al país y ahora se la pasa viajando por todo el país, conociendo y grabando todo. Aquí le pedí permiso para tomarme una fotografía con él. Él se mostraba bastante orgulloso de las actividades realizadas, sobre todo en las demostraciones de Karate y Kobudo.
A precious gift that most of us who were there received was a Nipponese magazine. This could be obtained by scanning a QR code provided by them and answering a simple survey about the event. At the end of the survey you could claim the magazine and also, by completing the form, you were automatically entered into a raffle. I loved the magazine and will treasure it.
There were also of course some kids who cosplayed. One of my favorites was this girl (I don't know her name) who cosplayed Kikyo, a character from the anime/manga, Inuyasha. She really did a great job as her costume, weapon and hair looked just like the character. Plus she was quite sweet and kind. When I asked her permission for a picture she agreed nicely.
Finally my friends, I must say that although I only went on the first day (as it was the day when there were more attractive activities for me) I was delighted to see again these activities focused on the culture of Japan. Un regalo precioso que recibimos la gran mayoría de las personas que estábamos allí, fue una revista Nipona. Esto lo podías obtener a través del escaneo de un código QR que te facilitaban ellos y al contestar una encuesta sencilla sobre el evento. Al terminar la encuesta podías reclamar la revista y además, al completar el formulario, participabas automáticamente por una rifa. A mí me encantó la revista y la guardaré con mucho cariño.
También habían por supuesto algunos chicos que realizaron cosplay. De mis favoritos fue esta chica (desconozco su nombre) que realizó un cosplay de Kikyo, un personaje del anime/manga, Inuyasha. Realmente hizo un gran trabajo pues su traje, arma y cabello se veían igual al del personaje. Además ella era bastante dulce y amable. Cuando le pedí permiso por una fotografía ella accedió de buena forma.
Finalmente amigos míos, debo decir que aunque yo solo fui el primer día (pues era el día en que habían actividades más atractivas para mí) quedé encantada de volver a ver a estás actividades enfocadas en al cultura del Japón.
