Clase Especial: las series en el arte [ENG/ESP]
Greetings to everyone in the lifestyle community. Today I’m joining you here to share another day in my life. This time, I’m bringing you a glimpse into the classroom. This week, the children were assigned the task of choosing a theme they wanted to paint to explore a concept I’ve been wanting to include for a while: artistic series. This refers to a series of works that are related to one another. For example, they might be related because they share the same color palette, use the same textures, tell the same story (as in realism), and so on. They’re used to working on a single piece, but I want them to start expanding those projects a bit so they can create a narrative with identity and depth. Along the way, they’ll find their own style that they’ll defend tooth and nail.
Saludos a todos a la comunidad de lifestyle. El día de hoy me uno por acá para compartir con ustedes un nuevo día en mi vida. En esta ocasión les traigo un nuevo día en el aula de clase. Para esta semana los niños tenían la tarea de buscar un tema que desearan pintar para tratar un contenido que tenía rato queriendo incluir: las series artísticas. Esto significa una serie de obras que guardan relación entre sí. Por ejemplo pueden guardar relación por tener la misma paleta de colores, usar las mismas texturas, llevar la misma historia (cómo en el realismo), etcétera. Ellos están acostumbrados a trabajar con una sola obra pero yo quiero que empiecen a expandir un poco esos trabajos para que puedan crear una narración con identidad y profundidad. Encontrando en el camino, un estilo propio que defienda a capa y espada.
The children brought five small rectangles of cardstock (the support) measuring 12 cm by 8 cm. They had never worked with such a small format before, and that is also important, since sometimes children get used to working in a single way and do not realize they have the freedom to choose (including) the size of the work they will create. Of course, since the format was smaller than usual, they found it much easier to work with, as the margin for error is reduced and the intimacy helps—it’s easier to work on a small scale than a large one. So I saw them much more at ease.
One thing in particular I notice is that there’s still a certain shyness/rigidity or difficulty in letting themselves get carried away by the work. They struggle with making mistakes; they prefer not to take risks. And not just with experimentation, but also with the initial planning. By this I mean that even though I offer them the freedom to choose a theme, the materials to use, and so on, sometimes it’s hard for them (with so many possibilities) to pick the right option. I think they need to understand that there is no ideal option, since it’s about working on the fly and gradually discovering the pros and cons of a technique, a material, etc. Here are the results. Los niños trajeron cinco rectángulos pequeños de cartulina (el soporte) que tenían un tamaño de 12 cm por 8 cm. Nunca antes habían trabajado con un formato tan pequeño y eso también es importante, ya que a veces los niños se acostumbran a trabajar con una sola forma de hacer las cosas y no comprenden que tienen la libertad para elegir (incluso) el tamaño en donde ellos van a trabajar. Por supuesto, al ser un formato más pequeño al acostumbrado, sintieron mucha más facilidad para hacer las cosas ya que se reduce el margen de errores y la cercanía ayuda puesto que es más fácil trabajar una escala pequeña que una grande. Así que los ví mucho más cómodos.
Una cosa en particular que noto es que sigue existiendo cierta timidez/rigidez o dificultad para dejarse llevar por el trabajo. Les cuesta cometer errores, prefieren no arriesgarse. Y no solo con la experimentación, sino también con el preámbulo. Con esto quiero decir que aunque ofrezco la libertad para escoger un tema, los materiales a usar y demás, a veces es difícil para ellos (con tantas posibilidades) elegir una opción idónea. Creo que deben entender que no hay opción ideal pues se trata de trabajar sobre la marcha y descubrir poco a poco las bondades y desventajas de una técnica, un material, etc. Aquí van los resultados.
