Para muchos de nosotros, la música ha sido esa primera conexión que hemos sentido en la vida desde ese primer momento especial en el que una madre le canta a su hijo que habita en su vientre. Y es que la música tiene la capacidad de llegar más allá de lo que nuestra imaginación pueda dar y donde los sueños son la verdadera realidad.

Quizás pocos de nosotros sepamos el origen de la música, o cual fue la primera canción que se interpretó, quién inventó las notas musicales o el origen de cada género, pero lo cierto es que nadie pone en duda el efecto que puede llegar a tener la música en nuestras vidas y como esta se puede convertir en el autor de los más memorables e inolvidables momentos de nuestra historia.

La música es un don maravilloso que está al alcance de todos, es como una fuente de energía que te invade de forma tan sutil y a la vez tan espontanea, en la que puedes liberar los verdaderos colores de tus sentimientos y emociones al entonarla, o también adueñarte de tal inspiración al escuchar cantar a alguien más.

La música no necesita de una licencia o un certificado de difusión, ya que puede llegar a cualquier lugar, incluso al rincón más profundo de nuestro corazón. Viste en traje de gala para cualquier ocasión, y ha hecho un pacto con la musa y la poesía para darles el ritmo y la armonía que le da sentido a nuestro existir.

For many of us, music has been that first connection we have felt in life since that first special moment when a mother sings to her child living in her womb. And the fact is that music has the ability to reach beyond what our imagination can give and where dreams are the true reality.

Perhaps few of us know the origin of music, or which was the first song that was interpreted, who invented the musical notes or the origin of each genre, but the truth is that no one doubts the effect that music can have in our lives and how it can become the author of the most memorable and unforgettable moments of our history.

Music is a wonderful gift that is within everyone's reach, it is like a source of energy that invades you in such a subtle and spontaneous way, in which you can release the true colors of your feelings and emotions when you sing it, or also take possession of such inspiration when you listen to someone else singing.

Music does not need a license or a broadcasting certificate, as it can reach anywhere, even the deepest corner of our heart. It dresses up for any occasion, and has made a pact with the muse and poetry to give them the rhythm and harmony that gives meaning to our existence.

En mi experiencia personal me considero una persona de alma libre para la música, siempre desde los parámetros de una buena letra, el respeto y los sentimientos que se puedan transmitir. Pienso que en la variedad de géneros musicales hay un sinfín de músicas tan inolvidables como emblemáticas que rompen las barreras del tiempo y la mortalidad.

Por esto, me es muy difícil identificar alguna canción favorita en algún período de mi vida, no por no tenerla sino por las muchas que son, por las cuales ya el problema no sería de búsqueda sino de selección. Aun así, quizás pueda destacar tres de ellas que marcaron un tramo especial de mi vida y los cuales tengo enmarcados con las notas musicales de cada canción.

Para mí es ineludible pensar en mi infancia y cual sería esa canción de cuna o melodía que recordaría con mucho cariño, y cuando lo hago solo viene a mi mente un cuadro: una madre sentada en una mesa frente a una máquina de coser y un niño jugando en el porche de la casa, mientras en el fondo suena una canción llamada “Quisiera decir tu nombre” de un cantante llamado José Luis Perales.

Probablemente se preguntarán: ¿Por qué a un niño le interesaría una canción así? Sencillamente porque era la canción que mi madre escuchaba cuando cosía, de hecho ese cantante es uno de sus favoritos y para mí también se convirtió desde ese primer momento en mi infancia. Al recordar esto, reconozco que hay “canciones que enmarcan momentos únicos en la vida” y este para mí es uno de ellos.

In my personal experience, I consider myself a person with a free soul for music, always within the parameters of good lyrics, respect and the feelings that can be transmitted. I think that in the variety of musical genres there are countless unforgettable and emblematic songs that break the barriers of time and mortality.

For this reason, it is very difficult for me to identify a favorite song in some period of my life, not because I don't have it but because there are so many of them, so the problem would not be of search but of selection. Even so, perhaps I can highlight three of them that marked a special stretch of my life and which I have framed with the musical notes of each song.

For me it is inescapable to think about my childhood and what would be that lullaby or melody that I would remember with great affection, and when I do it only comes to my mind a picture: a mother sitting at a table in front of a sewing machine and a child playing on the porch of the house, while in the background sounds a song called "Quisiera decir tu nombre" by a singer named José Luis Perales.

You are probably wondering: Why would a child be interested in such a song? Simply because it was the song my mother used to listen to when she was sewing, in fact that singer is one of her favorites and for me it also became from that first moment my childhood. Remembering this, I recognize that there are "songs that frame unique moments in life" and this for me is one of them.

Al tratar de pensar en una segunda canción las opciones son mucho más múltiples ya que en mi adolescencia no solo me interesaban las canciones en español sino también en inglés, hasta pudiera añadir el italiano gracias a dos excelentes cantantes como lo son Eros Ramazzotti y Laura Pausini. Pero pensando un poco en una canción específica que era una fija todos los días sin duda que la canción “Complicated” de Avril Lavigne es la ganadora.

Definitivamente era una canción que le cambiaba el color a mis días, y con semejante belleza de cantante se convirtió en mi amor platónico de adolescente. Recuerdo que esa canción fue tan impactante para su tiempo que fue considerada en el género de pop como la mejor en su década. Yo solía escucharla antes de ponerme a estudiar o antes de irme a entrenar y eso era como el interruptor para mis fuerzas y mis alegrías.

Como anécdota es difícil obviar a una amiga que se sabía esta canción completica y con buena entonación, pero lo asombroso no era eso sino que a ella no le gustaba el inglés como idioma. Fue la canción en sí la que la llevó a descubrir que realmente era buena para la música y para el idioma. Y es así como a veces “la música puede hacer brillar lo que no ves en ti”.

When trying to think of a second song the options are much more multiple since in my adolescence I was not only interested in songs in Spanish but also in English, I could even add Italian thanks to two excellent singers such as Eros Ramazzotti and Laura Pausini. But thinking a little bit about a specific song that was a fixed every day without a doubt that the song "Complicated" by Avril Lavigne is the winner.

It was definitely a song that changed the color of my days, and with such a beautiful singer it became my platonic love as a teenager. I remember that song was so shocking for its time that it was considered in the pop genre as the best song of its decade. I used to listen to it before going to school or before training and it was like a switch for my strength and joy.

As an anecdote it's hard to ignore a friend who knew this song in full and with good intonation, but the amazing thing was not that but that she didn't like English as a language. It was the song itself that led her to discover that she really was good at music and language. And that's how sometimes "music can bring out what you don't see in yourself".

Si este tema y esta publicación yo la hubiese escrito unas semanas antes, de seguro otra sería la canción a mencionar. Pero las situaciones y el tiempo se hicieron cómplices para que pudiera plasmar esta tercera elección. La primera vez que escuché esta canción, fue al visitar a un amigo quien estaba viendo un canal de puros videos musicales y fue allí donde por un momento solo pude oír la parte final de la melodía y notar algo extraño en el video: los personajes parecían juguetes.

Para ese entonces, yo acababa de enterarme de un malestar que tenía por años pero que no sabía y se trata de algo llamado “alexitimia”, que en pocas palabras es como la represión o supresión de los sentimientos y las emociones. No ha sido fácil descubrir esto en mí, pero algo que me ha dado paz en medio de todo esto es precisamente esta canción: “El cielo a mi favor” de Ricardo Arjona.

Este cantante es uno de mis favoritos y en cantidad de canciones creo que es el que más he escuchado, pero con esta canción indudablemente ha marcado mi vida y mi sentir ahora. Y algo muy curioso es que para entender la canción hay que ver el video, que a su vez se deja entender con la letra de la música. La considero “una gema en el inmenso mar de las canciones”.

Aparte de darme paz y tranquilidad, esta canción me hace ver más allá de lo que significa un amor incondicional, un amor capaz de ver más allá de los problemas y que no teme luchar y sufrir por lo que quiere. Es un tema que deja la puerta abierta al criterio sobre cual es la fuente de tan grande sentimiento. “El cielo a mi favor” es una obra de arte hecha canción.

If I had written this topic and this publication a few weeks earlier, surely another song would be mentioned. But situations and time became accomplices so that I could capture this third choice. The first time I heard this song, was when visiting a friend who was watching a channel of pure music videos and it was there where for a moment I could only hear the final part of the melody and noticed something strange in the video: the characters looked like toys.

By that time, I had just found out about an ailment I had for years but didn't know about and it is something called "alexithymia", which in a nutshell is like the repression or suppression of feelings and emotions. It has not been easy to discover this in me, but something that has given me peace in the midst of all this is precisely this song: "El cielo a mi favor" by Ricardo Arjona.

This singer is one of my favorites and in number of songs I think he is the one I've heard the most, but with this song has undoubtedly marked my life and my feelings now. And something very curious is that to understand the song you have to see the video, which in turn is understood with the lyrics of the music. I consider it "a gem in the immense sea of songs".

Apart from giving me peace and tranquility, this song makes me see beyond what unconditional love means, a love that is capable of seeing beyond problems and that is not afraid to fight and suffer for what it wants. It is a song that leaves the door open to the criterion of what is the source of such a great feeling. "El cielo a mi favor" is a work of art made song.

Después de todo esto y como lo dije desde el principio, soy un alma libre para la música y a pesar de mencionar solo estas tres canciones, hay muchas que en su momento y espacio han sido el más hermoso paisaje que he visto pasar en el viaje de mi vida.

¿Qué sería de la vida sin la música? De seguro muchos de nosotros tendrán tinta y palabras de sobra para explicar cómo las canciones se han moldeado de manera perfecta a nuestro existir. Porque la música va más allá de lo que dices y sientes, te da el valor y la valentía que no conocías en ti, la música es vivir y sin ella el concepto de vida estaría incompleto. Detrás de cada canción hay una historia, así que vive para escribir, para inspirar y para cantar, porque con la música la vida te llena más.

After all this and as I said from the beginning, I am a free soul for music and despite mentioning only these three songs, there are many that in their time and space have been the most beautiful scenery I have seen pass by in my life's journey.

What would life be without music? Surely many of us will have ink and words to spare to explain how songs have molded themselves seamlessly into our existence. Because music goes beyond what you say and feel, it gives you the courage and bravery that you didn't know in you, music is living and without it the concept of life would be incomplete. Behind every song there is a story, so live to write, to inspire and to sing, because with music life fills you more.
