What's up #HiveGarden friends, hope you are doing well.

I have a ginger plant planted in a pot since I don't have enough space to plant my plants, my yard is cemented for that reason I am reluctant to have more plants in my house. Some time ago I planted a ginger plant in a pot. One fine day on March 7th I was watering my plants that are usually ferns that I have planted in pots as well and of course my ginger plant, I noticed that the leaves were a little dry at the tips, I thought it was because of the inclement sun that is beating our city in these months, I was a little worried and I was attentive to water it more frequently.

The days passed and my ginger plant did not show any improvement even though I was watering it with abundant water. I usually water my plants in the morning or at night, but I watered it twice a day of course without overdoing it, since I was researching and the plant should be in a place where it gets sunlight, but it should also receive some shade and should not be soaked with water, also the soil should have a part of sand.

After this little research I realized that my plant was always in a place where it only got direct sunlight since I have no leafy trees to provide shade for my plants.

Here I show the before and after photo. The first photo is from March 07 and the second one is from March 22, you can see the difference in the color of the leaves drying slowly

15 days passed and on March 22 the plant had the driest leaves, so I decided to take out the gingers since my brother in law Leobaldo, told me that he had a ginger plant, he investigated and when the leaves started to dry it was because we had to harvest the ginger, but I doubted a little of what he was telling me because I saw one of these plants at my friend Amparo's house some time ago and it was very tall, almost my size and it was in good condition and very green. But unlike my plant my friend's was planted in the ground and its roots had enough room to expand.

I pulled the first one out I was pretty excited first time I harvested jengribe.

I took out the ginger before the plant dried out, to my surprise the root of the ginger was coming out from under the pot which means that the roots were very tight and that's why it was drying out.

Once I harvested the ginger I noticed that at the end there were several roots left and I thought I could find more ginger there, but no, they were only root remnants

I removed the ginger branches and placed them on the ground while I continued to remove the others that remained in the pot, then I removed the stems and cleaned them well.

Yes, the harvest was good, I hope that the next harvest will be better because I will plant ginger in a small space of land that I have in my yard, when planted in the ground the roots have better space to grow.
I appreciate your comment.

I'm glad I came across your post as I've never seen a ginger plant before. It's not common her due to the colder climate and have never bothered to check how it looks like, I only see the routs in the grocery store. Nice harvest.

@erikah, I am so glad that through my publication you were able to get to know the ginger plant, how flattering. This tuber always caught my attention because of the characteristics of its root. My mother planted it at home when I was little, I remember that its size was almost my size.
A hug, and happy day

I love to grow ginger especially in europe by just planting one bought at the market, and harvest multiple from the plant it has grown! It makes a little tropical vibe in the european climate and grows so fast and abundantly :) I just wish I could see one bloom one day, as they look splendid!! The same for curcuma 😍

Hi, @housecatharsia the ginger I harvested was also purchased at the market, from one root several more multiplied.
I have not seen a ginger plant bloom, I am going to ask a neighbor who has a large plant in her garden and ask her about it, hopefully she will have a flower and capture the image.
greetings :)
