This week, while looking for something interesting to watch on one of my favorite apps, Netflix, I stumbled upon a title that instinctively caught my attention: My Best Friend. When I saw the image of two mature women in a beautiful village in Portugal, in a very funny scene where neither of them could climb a steep flight of stairs with their suitcases, I couldn’t help but start the movie right away and settle in to watch it—and I certainly didn’t make a mistake in choosing it.

As soon as I started watching it, I felt a connection because I instantly saw myself in my best friend; it was as if I were watching a part of our own life stories: I’ll give you a brief introduction: it’s about a pair of friends who’ve known each other since they were young, and as they reach their 50s, they begin to experience all the changes typical of that age—perimenopause with all its symptoms, sweating, hot flashes, insomnia, sudden fatigue, and the list goes on—plus all the personal changes each of them is facing.

But what captivated me most about this movie was the way all of this is portrayed in a very humorous way, where true friendship shines through—not only between them but also between their daughters, who, following their mothers’ example, are best friends as well. The movie depicts situations—such as sharing sorrows and struggles, but also joys, memories, and the pleasure of learning to live life regardless of age—that can only be shared with a true friend.

After watching it, I was left with a wonderful sense of well-being; I loved it, and I immediately sent a message to my best friend—the one I mentioned at the beginning—who isn’t in our country right now, but with whom I’ve always kept in daily contact thanks to the internet and all its benefits. I just wrote to her: “You have to watch this movie, my friend, because it reminded me of us,” hahahaha. She immediately replied, “I’m going to find it and watch it.” I’m sure she felt the same way I did—that sense of nostalgia for our past escapades and even our more recent ones, like the hot flashes we’ve shared, hahahaha.

This is a lighthearted, simple movie that invites us to appreciate both the beautiful and even the difficult aspects of life, showing us the value of friendship, family ties, and above all, love in all its forms. In this movie, we see that we should enjoy everything life has to offer—and it’s even better when we’re with the people we love. Even when changes come, we can all face them if love is within us to save us from whatever negativity might arise, and we can simply learn from it, take the positive, and move forward.

So, aside from laughing a lot and feeling nostalgic, I felt like I spent my time watching a great movie, and that’s why I’m here recommending it to you, my friends. I’m sure you won’t regret watching it. Cheers!
