Here is my entry :
1️⃣ Do you like to travel during the holidays, or stay close to home?
Oh thats a difficult one, we have a great home and a lovely family so both are great options, but we make our home Christmassy and after christmas we usually go and travel to the snow. Often that is to Austria. This year we have to see if thats possible, with the covid rules and regulations, and although we celebrate Christmas with all 4 kids and two of them bring their fresh significant other, so we are with 8. According to the rules of the dutch government you can invite 4 people outside your family bubble at christmas so thats what we are doing. But after that we will leave for the snow with just two of the kids, because midterms and exams are still going to happen. So they will stay at home, watch the dogs and the house. Or will the dogs watch them when mum isnt there?
Austria is so beautiful. The fresh air, the snow and the delicious food. So we love to travel and stay homey at christmas holidays, BUT a must is , it has to be WITH family. Ofcourse I will blog about this skiing trip and the fact that travelling nowadays is a virtue, and a blessing. I am for sure grateful.
2️⃣ What is your favorite holiday food, and why?
And while we will be on holiday we will have the Austrian food ofcourse.
So my diet will be send off for a week or to and I will enjoy many things. Such as :
KAISERSMARREN
It's an ugly looking scrambled sweet pancake and it's a mountain full on your plate and the pancake is served with icing sugar and steamed prunes. I drink that with a red bull and that's a kind of wrong dessert eaten for lunch. I can't wait already!
JAGERMEISTER and OBSLER
Well thats a drink we need to have, its herb alcoholic spiced drink and comes in a little bottel which you need to drink as a shot.
OBSLER is even more alcoholic but both I take once when I am in the Alps.
APFELSTRUDEL MIT SAHNE UND VANILLE SAUCE
This is pastry. as we have the tompoes, in Austria it is the strudel. Strudel dough, sometimes this can also be puff pastry like I used in the puff Nutella tree in my foodies blog. hot-tempered is filled with spiced apples with sugar and cinnamon and added dark raisins and bread crumbs. This is usually served with vanilla sauce and, against the rules, I take it with whipped cream, not good for my diet at all. but if you eat this on a mountain on enteral in the crackling cold of winter, ohhhhh that's the best!
GULASHSUPPE
Gulasch is a kind of stew that consists of 3 different types of meat, chicken, beef and pork. Added green and red peppers, lots of onions and often garlic and cumin. The meat is slow-cooked, making the sauce very creamy – so it's a perfect dish after or during a long, hard day's skiing. I eat it with a kaiserbrotchen or rice. This is a really hearty meal, so I often take it and share it with the kids. the smell is also so delicious when you enter such a ski hut it smells so delicious that you immediately get hungry!
As you can read , i love the country and its food. I dont have to choose but again the fact that we might be able to travel after christmas is great.

Hi dear sadly no, with the lockdown and the fact that the Netherlands have many omnikrom counts we can’t travel , but still there was some hope but no not possible. But it was nice writing the blog 😉 good luck I see so many entries already
I think many countries are now forced to close their borders again. Better safe than sorry. Maybe next year, hopefully.

By the way .. it's called "Obstler" Obst-ler because .. this "Schnaps" is made out of Fruit (= Obst), there are countless possibitlies.... arpicot, pear, plum are the most common. If you can travel this holiday season, remember asking them if they have a "Zirberl" Zirben-Schnaps. These are the "sprouts" from the "Zirbe" Pine conifere tree. And let me know if you like it ;-)
