Helping Ukraine from our corner of Europe
We all follow it, the horror of a war. Something we didn't expect at all and none of us needs a war. I hear you think that people can be radical , well I know that man that started this war is crazy. I may be naive, but I didn't think that war would break out and that innocent civilians, including friends of Hive, would suffer. That is why the shock was great last week and since then, I wake up with long news broadcasts and before we go to sleep we watch the latest news. The idea that my husband and eldest son have to go and fight at the front, is just inhumane. Imagine you had to leave with only what you quickly gathered , little stuff to survive. And had to leave all your precious house and memories behind.
There are many initiatives, the latest one was just on twitter. Its called ROOMSFORUKRAINE. Here is the tweet.

Twitter, the tv news bulletins, the newspapers, Hive and Instagram. There is something to see or read everywhere. And that’s good we all need to see what is happening.
I am horrified by the children who have died. I see people in deplorable conditions with very few necessities in bomb shelters.
For now in the whole of Netherlands there are many places that collect the things needed. As a dog mum , I also saw a need for animal stuff that will be the second round, now we do things for the kids and parents.
It reminds me of the war in Bosnia. My grandfather died at the same time in the Netherlands and with his house, household goods and lease we helped a family, who also fled to the Netherlands from a war zone, to build a new life.
It has always captivated me how decisively my mother would arrange things and take care of everything with the idea that these people should build a new life with the warmest bath. I thank my mother for that upbringing. Now that I am a mother myself, it touches me even more, and I wanted to do something with the children.
In my opinion there are initiatives all over the country, and I understand all over the world, to collect food, clothing and necessities for survival. My youngest has a hard time with the images on the news and I think that this course of action (which is necessary for the Ukrainians first of course) will also help him try to understand and process it at the same time. I also hope that this way at least the warm feeling of helpfulness is planted in his heart. Just like me!
So we looked at which initiative in Rotterdam suited us best and was closest. That was quickly found and we received an app with the list of supplies to send to the war zone, but also to the border of Poland.
The kids have placed stickers on the products to stay safe, they decided that themselves, and I loved that personal touch. I did a few aswell. Here you see the stickers.
This,is two bags with fleece blankets and two air beds.
We set out with the list. We went to the mall and did some shopping and bought as much as we could. We have medicines, bandages, plasters, sanitary pads, toothbrushes, toothbrushes, paste and baby wipes. We have boxes of stuff ready.
There was also a demand for fleece blankets and towels and air mattresses. Well, we had those too, so they're ready too. Tomorrow morning we will all go to the collection point to bring the boxes and the other stuff. Than the volunteers will bring all the stuff to the border with Poland on Friday morning by lorry.
Monday there is a big TV show in the Netherlands. Its to raise money and help people. There is already 3 million raised in three days. Its called GIRO 555. Money to possibly build a new life somewhere in Europe or else in their now so ravaged homeland.
My hart is also with the Ukrainian hivers, I hope you are all still safe, and we think of you from our corner of the world. We pray all will be solved soon. We all can do WITHOUT WAR !!!!

Its been 4 days since this blog and I did some more things , this is gonna take longer and more people are in need. Its nothing special every body needs to chip in. What if roles were reversed than I would want people to do the same. And yes all 4 kids need to know this : helping others is a must in life. Whom you want to help is up to them.

This war is just senseless!
We sometimes have hectic spouts of violence in South Africa and I know what that part feels like. We need to work on society. The world has changed but some of the habits have not. To follow a madman's commands and shoot down civilians should be something for the history books.
All our love and support. We watch anxiously.
Indeed the one madman is lying and murdering all for his own gain and believes it's unbelievable to me. It's saddens me and I try to do what I can , but it will never be enough for people who left all the own behind, I cannot even imagine how that is like.
