Finally getting some production!

I was staring to give up hope about ever pulling much of anything from my garden this year. My Jalapeno plants were pretty much DOA and most of the rest of my garden was put in so late that I didn't have much hope for it.

I had pulled maybe one or two small zucchini from the garden and I had a couple of tomatoes that seemed to be taking their sweet time enjoying being green.

You can get a pretty good idea here about how green they were. I think those ones on the right hand side stayed green for a good month before I was finally able to pick the nice red tomato that you see above.

It wasn't much, but I was happy to be able to pull a little something from the train wreck of a garden that I have been tending to this year.

I am having much better luck with my zucchini than I did last year. I think the addition of the flowers to draw in the pollinators was a great idea. It probably seems pretty obvious to many of you, but I have to thank @bdmillergallery for that. I will certainly be adding flowers each year from now on.

It has been hard tending to the garden because my wife and I have been camping so much this summer. With many of our reservations getting cancelled last summer due to Covid, we have been making up for lost time and trying to get in as many trips as possible.

When we get home I try to water the garden as much as possible, but I know it probably still needs a lot more love and care. It has been so dry this summer. Many areas are in a drought and the periods of rain have been few and far between.

Here is a nice picture of our dog Jovi enjoying the camp fire while we were on one of our recent trips. The heat and humidity were pretty intense on this trip. So much so that we debated even starting a fire. I am glad we did and as you can see, Jovi didn't mind it too much either.

Imagine my great joy when I returned from that trip above to see these items in waiting for me in my garden. I know it isn't much of a haul really, but that zucchini will be delicious fried up in a pan and those Campari tomatoes will be great in a salad or some other form of dip.

I've got some more tomatoes that are just waiting to turn green and I have at least one more zucchini that I can see starting to come in. With the hot and humid weather we are getting I wouldn't be surprised if I am pulling that one by the end of next week.

I figure I still have a good one to one and a half months before I need to start culling my garden for the winter. I have an old co-worker that has promised me some garlic that I might try and plant this Fall. She says planting it before winter is the best way to go. It has to be the right kind of garlic according to her though. You can't just throw in the stuff that you get from the store. I tried that once. It doesn't work!

So there you go. That is the update on my garden. With this being my busy time at work, it could be the last one you get this year. I say this every year, but I really hope I can do a better job and be more on top of things next year!

We will see if that really happens...

Sometimes things can be discouraging when growing your own food, trust me I know. It's great you have been able to harvest a few things from your garden this year.

It's great that you had something to harvest this year. I know how sad it can be when you figuring out that you may be a little bit late for planting and make anything grow 😞 But luckily it's just to try next year a little bit earlier 😄 I think everyone can agree on that plants can be very difficult sometimes.

This year was really tough. We had some late frosts into May and that really put my schedule off!

Well, it seems your zucchini plant wasn't too bad after all. That's a pretty decent zucchini.
