Personal blog: Writing is like going for a walk... kinda.

I am reading a book by Stephen King entitled "On Writing", in which he talks about the work of the writer and how it arose and has developed throughout his life. And while reading, here and there I find comments or phrases that resemble things that I have thought, said and even written, like many other writers who have approached the subject.

And it is that when it comes to writing, those of us who do it practically out of necessity, as something that is part of us, beyond the significance of what our fingers give birth, which depends on many other factors, we have a shared feeling and a particular way of living writing.

For those of us who write, writing is a necessity and at the same time a kind of imposition, because sometimes we have the vivid feeling that it is not we who write, but something else through us. And on the other hand, sometimes even if we want to do it, the words are simply denied us, as if they were on strike that day.

Writing is something rewarding but at the same time threatening, and it is usually an activity of introspection and personal exploration, whether we like it or not. You write about what you know, what you think, what you believe, what and who you are.

And in this sense, the more we write, the more we get into ourselves and we get to know each other better, and I am not referring only to our good parts, but also to our dark parts, that is why writing can be a difficult and even intimidating activity at times. Because it confronts us with ourselves, and reveals who we are sometimes even in spite of ourselves.

I consider that it is always preferable to know oneself, because to that extent one can recognize his/her successes in order to enhance them, and his mistakes in order to correct them. It is no coincidence that writing is an activity that is included in many types of therapy. However, many people are afraid to write, and not because they are afraid of what they may discover when doing them, but because they do not know how to start.

We want to write "nice" from the first word our fingers trace and that is practically impossible. It is like wanting to paint a Picasso the first time we paint if we have never picked up a brush. However, unlike painting and other arts, anyone can write if they remove such pressures and simply let go.

In particular, I like to think that writing is like going for a walk. Sometimes you know where you want to go, and sometimes you don't. Sometimes you even go out to explore aimlessly to see what you are and choose the route at the moment, on the fly, which can lead us to discover places that we would never have imagined, as well as suddenly taking us nowhere, but that does not necessarily detract from the experience of the tour.

If you do not know how to start writing, do not worry, I was not clear when I started this post, and I am hardly clear about it now that I am almost finishing it. Don't worry and just write what comes to your mind and don't judge, just keep writing.

Imagine that you travel a city that you do not know well, and that you want to know better, in this case yourself, and as you do when you are a tourist in a city, walk and look closely at what surrounds you, let yourself be carried away by what you say what you see and create your route instantly, without thinking too much.

If you write like this, I assure you that the experience will be worth it, whether you find something interesting or not, you will have become familiar with the environment and you may have better luck the next time, and perhaps as Stephen King one day you will even find yourself writing a book on How did you start writing, and remember this post in which a stranger exploring his own inner city invited you to give yourself the opportunity to do the same.
