Audio Bar is a weekly space in which I share my musical discoveries of the last 7 days, whether thanks to Spotify, YouTube, recommendations from friends and acquaintances, or my own insatiable curiosity for new music.

Fleet Foxes - Mykonos

I had listened to some Fleet Foxes songs in the past, because they are similar in style to some bands I listen to, and Spotify's algorithm used to pick songs from them to play from time to time.
This time they were included in its recommendations of the week, and by paying more attention to them, I liked them a lot. They have all the earmarks of those bands that seem to be formed by a group of hippies, and in a way they sound the same. They look like a band from the 60's that played Woodstock and then traveled to the present. One of its distinctive features, and one that I really appreciate, is its handling of harmonies in voices, so sadly rare today.
Había escuchado algunas canciones de Fleet Foxes en el pasado, porque son similares en estilo a algunas bandas que escucho, y el algoritmo de Spotify elegía caciones suyas para ponerme de vez en cuando.
En esta ocasión vino en sus recomendaciones de la semana, y ya presentándoles más atención, me han gustado mucho. Tienen toda la pinta de esas bandas que parecen estar formadas por un grupo de hippies,y en cierto modo suenan igual. Parecen una banda de los 60's que tocó en Woodstock y que luego viajó hacia el presente. Una de sus características distintivas, y que realmente aprecio, es su manejo de las armonías en las voces, tan tristemente poco común hoy en día.
Michael Kiwanuka - Cold Little Heart

I had never heard of Michael Kiwanuka, and this is literally the first song I've heard from him, and what a great song! It really surprised me.
The song starts with a long intro that reminded me of some Pink Floyd songs, and it's so long that I thought it was an instrumental, but then we hear Kiwanuka's voice, which is a new surprise, and the song suddenly changes and takes on references to classic rock and blues. In the end it has been more than 11 minutes without waste, which I hope to repeat many times in the future, and I hope you do too.
Nunca había escuchado de Michael Kiwanuka, y esta es literalmente la primera canción que escucho de él, ¡y vaya sorpresa!, realmente me ha sorprendido.
El tema comienza con una larga intro que me recordó algunos temas de Pink Floyd, y es tan larga que pensé que se trataba de tema instrumental, pero luego escuchamos la voz de Kiwanuka, lo que es una nueva sorpresa, y el tema de repente cambia un poco y adquiere referencias al rock clásico y al blues. Al final han sido más de 11 minutos sin desperdicio, que espero repetir muchas veces en el futuro, y espero que ustedes también.
Tash Sultana - Jungle

If memory serves me correctly, I met Tash Sultana thanks to NPR's (National Public Radio) Tiny Desk Concerts, and every time I see her I'm just as surprised as the first time.
The first time I saw her I was surprised by how capable she was of building sound and controlling them to practically sound like a complete band, but today I am surprised by her intensity and the passion she transmits every time I see her play. If we lived with the intensity and joy with which Tash Sultana interprets her songs, we would live in a better place.
Si la memoria no me falla, conocí a Tash Sultana gracias a los Tiny Desck Concerts de NPR (National Public Radio), y cada vez que la veo me sorprende igual que la primera vez.
La primera vez que la ví me sorprendió como podía gracias a la tecnología actual, construir capaz de sonido y controlarlas para ser prácticamente sonar como una banda completa, pero hoy me sorprende su intensidad y la pasión que transmite cada vez que la veo tocar. Si viviéramos con la intensidad y alegría con que Tash Sultana interpreta sus canciones viviríamos en un lugar mejor.
Gorillaz feat. Little Dragon - Empire Ants

Damon Albarn literally opened Pandora's box when he created Gorillaz, and luckily for us it's a box that's still just as prosperous and giving as it was in the beginning.
The project has had its ups and downs, but in general terms it is one of the most successful musical initiatives of the 21st century, and it is largely due to its policy of making many collaborations, and this song is one of many good examples of it.
Damon Albarn literalmente abrió la caja de pandora cuando creó Gorillaz, y afortundamente para nosotros es una caja que sigue siendo tan próspera y dadivosa como al principio.
El proyecto ha tenido sus altas y sus bajas, pero en términos generales es una de las iniciativas musicales más exitosas del siglo XXI, y en buena parte es su política de hacer muchas colaboraciones, y este tema es uno de tantos buenos ejemplos de ello.
