People, Cars and Fountains ( My City )

I often have dreams of my city. Although I am one of those who dream in color, I have found that when I dream of the city I always dream in black and white. I wonder why this happens. I don't have an answer, I have more of a thin explanation.

I am nostalgic and it seems to me that everything in the past was better and more beautiful. Same with the city. In the old days, it was called Little Paris. In the interwar period. Some say it was an exaggeration, that the city was even more bitter then than it is now. Others say it's a comparison (with Paris) that holds water. Romanian society at the beginning of the last century was deeply influenced by France, French culture, and even the French language. The nobility and the bourgeoisie of that time had gone to school in Paris and in the salons of Bucharest, only French was spoken, even if the king of Romania was German.

This French influence was evident in the architecture of the time, many buildings in Bucharest were copies or influenced by important buildings in Paris. The high society, the rich part of the population behaved like in Paris and because of this foreign travelers arriving here felt like in Paris, of course on a smaller scale and because of this they called the city "Little Paris"!

So, because I dream the city in black and white I wanted to see what it would look like in black and white only.

I spent a quarter of an hour in Bucharest's Unirii Square, a place where many people gather, many cars pass by and there are a few fountains, about the only ones in the city of this size. I try to imagine how all this would have looked in Little Paris, that is a hundred years ago. No color pictures!

Beautiful pics! I've never been to Bucharest. But these pics in B&W certainly have a nostalgic flair of a Little Paris.

Thank you! That's what I tried to bring, a reminder of Little Paris, by choosing B&W.
