Sublime Christmas Sunday

This could be a typical Sunday since @crypt-skip and I love watching basketball, but it's definitely not a typical Christmas for us.

Normally there is a big family gathering, either at my house or my brother's house. Lots of nieces and nephews, grandkids, grandparents, brothers and sisters. Not this year though.

My brother, who lives about a hundred miles from us, hosted this year's dinner and we had planned to attend. Unfortunately, somehow (not sure how but sometimes stuff just happens!) I hurt my back and just couldn't make that 200-mile round trip drive in a car. And on top of that, the only one of my two sons living in the area tested positive for covid on Thursday. Even though he's not experiencing symptoms (thank goodness) he and his wife are in quarantine at home.

So that left @crypt-skip and me home alone. With only FIVE really good NBA games to watch as the (electric) fireplace crackles merrily underneath the TV. We face-timed with the family early in the day and wished each other Merry Christmas. Then we settled into our snuggly spots on the sofa and enjoyed the games. Our favorite team, Chicago Bulls, wasn't playing today but there were other really good match-ups. Golden State vs Phoenix Suns featured the two top-ranked teams in the league and it was a very entertaining match-up.

The part of this being Christmas and Sunday was that I would usually be cooking up a storm, whether I was hosting the dinner or taking my share of the feast to my brother's house. Today, considering the bad back, our Christmas dinner consisted of chicken spaghetti squash noodle soup!

While I did miss the hubbub and camaraderie of the big family dinner, there was something SUBLIMELY PEACEFUL about spending a Christmas together, just @crypt-skip and I, and enjoying the quiet day.

Things don't always turn out the way you expect them to but if you look hard enough you can usually find some kind of silver lining.

Happy Holidays to everyone and I hope you all had a Sublime Christmas Sunday!

Merry Christmas @blueeyes8960 and @crypt-skip. It's definitely different with the covid, many travel plans have been hit with cancellations and delays. Hopefully, next festive season will be covid/pandemic free, then we can have the big family get togethers. Thank you for sharing and keep enjoying the festive season - New year is coming up :}
