Splinterlands SHARE YOUR BATTLE Weekly Challenge - Shadow Snitch, "Sssh! Watch what you say in the Shadows, or this Snitch will Tell on You!"

avatar

The theme for this week's challenge is a creature that looks really sneaky and scary. I can almost imagine myself in a dark alleyway getting waylaid and terrified to death by a being such as this. Anyway, without further ado, I bring you the SHADOW SNITCH!

Shadow Snitches are created by the conjurers of the Chaos Legion. Weaving Death magic, they breathe life into beings made completely of darkness. The purpose of the Shadow Snitches is to be deployed into lands prior to the Chaos Legion's invasion. Moving from shadow to shadow, they are listeners and watchers, feeding information back to the Chaos Legion.

But once the invasion is complete, the Shadow Snitches still serve a purpose. They can locate and follow high-value targets, reporting back on movements to Chaos Legion leadership. If needed, Shadow Snitches can also capture prisoners and bring them back for interrogation. 👻👻👻

The Shadow Snitch in Splinterlands is not a very widely used card in Death decks. At level 1, it has 1 ATTACK and 1 SPEED, with NO ARMOR and 5 HEALTH. It also has the REACH ability.

These stats make the Shadow Snitch a pretty tanky unit although it's slow speed and minimal attack pretty much renders it useless for any major offensive.

The Shadow Snitch's true strength lies in it's REACH ability, which allows it to assist the main tank by chipping off slightly at the opponent every turn! At 4 MANA cost, it's also rather cheap too! I would consider this card pretty weak actually, and definitely nowhere being ranked in the higher tier levels.

The release of Chaos Legion has given us the Shadow Snitch as a direct competitor to the Spineback Wolf. Both cards spot similar mana costs and attack power and both have the REACH ability. In terms of health, while the Shadow Snitch has more health, the Spineback Wolf makes up for it with some armor. In terms of speed though, they are polar opposites at both ends of the spectrum.

Even with such similarities and differences though, the Shadow Snitch does have it's own place in Death decks, but probably not together with the Spineback Wolf. Both can be interchanged depending on the situation.

📊Card Stats by Level📊

As we can see here, the main purpose of the Shadow Snitch is to be a seconodary tank. Stats wise, it's speed and attack and hp gets higher at higher levels, reinforcing it's ability to do what it does best! At levels 6 and above, it gains affliction, turning it into a really good support unit in disabling the opponent's ability to heal their own tank.

📝Important Rulesets Rundown📝

Here, I detail the list of combat rulesets that may affect the Shadow Snitch.

⚔️🛡My Battle Showcase🛡⚔️

Let me present a battle I fought recently in which I used the Shadow Snitch. My opponent used the EARTH splinter. At first glance, seeing the Failed Summoner as his tank, I thought I was doomed. What chance did I have against someone who clearly countered my low hp magic DPS units? 😱

I would say that the Shadow Snitch was DEFINITELY the MVP of this match having single handedly turned the tide of battle. It's high HP for this Little League ruleset allowed it to take all the damage the opponent could dish out until it managed to eke out a win! 🏆🏆🏆

👯‍♀️👯👯‍♂️LINEUP CHOICES👯‍♀️👯👯‍♂️

1st CARD SLOT

FURIOUS CHICKEN was chosen to be a sacrificial unit. At 0 cost, and with empty slots to spare, it was a no brainer to put this card in.

2nd CARD SLOT

CORPSE FIEND chosen to fill this slot as a 0 mana filler to take 1 hit of any SNIPE/OPPORTUNITY attacks or to take a hit if/when the 1st unit goes down.

3rd CARD SLOT

SHADOW SNITCH is plays the role of a secondary tank which will transition very quickly into being the main tank once the 0 mana cannon fodder in front dies. It might be able to get off a hit or 2 with it's REACH too.

4th CARD SLOT

FALLEN SPECTER is kept behind to keep it safe, while it acts as the DPS for the team.

5th CARD SLOT

SCREAMING BANSHEE is also kept behind here to keep it safe, while it acts as the DPS for the team.

6th CARD SLOT

NONE

⚔️🛡Battle Action Report🛡⚔️

SYB Shadow Snitch.gif

As you can see, my opponent used the Failed Summoner as his tank, which was a VERY good choice, being a tanky unit with the MAGIC REFLECT ability. His Furious Chicken was the secondary tank with the the rest of the units being his DPS-ers.

The battle started out looking like it was already his game. Both my low hp magic DPS-ers instantly died from Magic Reflect as they attacked the Failed Summoner! - What chance could I possibly have? 😱 BUT as it wore on, I soon realised that the Shadow Snitch, with it's superior HP compared to the rest of the units, was holding the line admirably.

Slowly, but surely, the Shadow Snitch wore down the opponent's team and the battle was won by a whisker! Even though I had a huge scare at the start at the sight of my opponent's team, the comparatively high HP of the Shadow Snitch (as it tanked it's way to victory) proved to be the edge I needed to eventually overpower my opponent. 💪🏻

🔮🔮🔮Hindsight is 20/20🔮🔮🔮

Would I have done anything differently? 🤔 I did not expect the opponent to use a Magic Reflecting Failed Summoner which would kill off all my DPS-ers. I would definitely have chosen otherwise if I knew it beforehand. 🏆🥇

I definitely can appreciate the Shadow Snitch and it's strengths. This is one of those cards which are very strong if surrounded with the proper team. The tank role it brings to the battlefield will give a player the edge in squeezing out every tiny advantage to get the win. 👍🏻

For any players looking to try out the Shadow Snitch, I hope this article has given you some insight into its potential. 😉
