MY FIRST CROCHET BAG

Hello everyone, it’s another beautiful Monday for us in the Needleworkmonday community. For the longest time, I have wanted to create a crochet bag. I mostly crochet clothes because the yarns are easy to get. The yarns for bags (T-shirt yarn) on the other hand are quite scarce and I've been trying to get my hands on one.

I was finally able to get it in December 2021 which I was excited about. I got a white yarn but I was busy with other projects so I kept it aside for a while, and when I was ready to use it. It wasn't so pretty to look at anymore. I don't know how it got stained but it did and I couldn't use it.

Finally, a week ago I purchased another but in the colour nude. I wasn't going to let my experience with the white one repeat itself. I started working on making the "bag of my dreams" 2 days ago. I used a 6.5mm hook because of the thickness of the yarn.

For this bag, I started by making a chain of 19. I didn't exactly measure the inches because I forgot my tape measurement at home, so I just used my eyes to determine what looked right. The whole bag was made with single crochet stitches. I did a total of 34 rows.

At some point, I wanted to put some puff design for the front part because that's what my "dream bag" should look like. I wasn't able to do that because I could tell I was running out of yarn and if I continued on that path I wouldn't be able to complete the bag. So I just did regular single crochets.

Finally in the 34th row, which was as far as my yarn could go. I did the side pieces which I joined to the side of the bag after folding it. Then all I needed to do was attach the bag accessories to make it look good and boom my bag is ready.

I love the final look of the bag, however, I do feel like it's not worth the stress. The yarn is thick, which is perfect for a bag but not for my hands as I have bruises on my hands as a result of this. Also, it's hard to get and way too expensive for something that's not enough to give me my dream design. I think the next bag I will try will be with regular yarn. Let's see how that comes out.

Here's the final look. I hope you like it too.

the bag is very cute! sorry that you were disappointed with the work process: having bruises on your hands is not particularly comfortable

Yeah, and expensive too. Way more expensive than regular yarn.

The bag looks good by the way, and the size is cute too. Sorry about the bruises.

Yeah, also the fact that it's not easily accessible is discouraging.

Thank you!

This bag is really really amazing, is really sad that you hurt your hand in the process. I hope the pains die ASAP.

Thank you! I think the bruises have something to do with the fact that it's my first time using this yarn. I had similar ones when I first started crocheting.

I love your first bag! It’s so cute and just the right size. I’ve always loved the way t-shirt yarn looks and feels. It’s not so fun when your hands don’t feel good afterwards though :(

It’s good that you are trying out different yarns and projects to see what is worth your time and money. I hope you enjoy your bag because you did do a nice job on it. I love the chains and the clip in front, it’s a nice color for that purse ~

Thank you so much. I also love how t-shirt yarn looks, that's why I've been so intent on using one. Also, I wonder if I didn't get the ones that are easier to use because in some of the videos I see on YouTube the creators don't struggle as much as I did or maybe my hands aren't used to it.

I am still going to give it a try at a later date but for now the next yarn I hope to try is velvet and Paracord.

This is really pretty, your WhatsApp status predicted how much you love crotchet bags and will making this sooner than I though.

Have never seen this kind of yarn before..
And the color can make it match any outfit..

Welldone sis ❤😘

Hello, I share with you the love for woven bags, in fact I have been wanting to make a bag with this type of material for a long time, but like you I think it is very expensive and to make a good bag you need several balls of yarn. I have worked with nylon in different colors and I am about to try with cord to give a thicker look to the stitch, I hope to share it soon.
This bag turned out very nice although I'm sorry for what your hands suffered.
