BEING AROUND THE RIGHT PEOPLE

Our environment, especially the people we surround ourselves with, has a significant influence on our lives. Mostly they tend to affect our overall person as a whole.

Fortunately for me, I've always been surrounded by people that have influenced my life positively. I was talking to my boyfriend recently and I told him I'm grateful for the type of friends I had during my college days.

Mostly because I am the type of person that's open to anything. I may not actively participate but I am always not against trying out new things. So there's a possibility that if I had friends who suggested negative things I'd have gone along just for the fun of it.

During my college days, I met someone who had a huge impact on my life as a whole. Funny how we met and I didn't like her at first. Well, not her per se just her type of people, they have proven more than once to be hypocrites. Except she was different.

From her I learnt not to always judge a book by its cover and also a certain character does not define a certain group of people. After getting to know her I realized she's one of the purest humans I've ever met.

She made me understand the significance of selfless giving. While we were still close friends I watched closely and saw how she was willing to give everything without expecting anything in return and she didn't do that just with the people close to her but with everyone.

She was always willing to lend a helping hand when needed. She taught me how to put others into consideration when doing something that may potentially affect other people. She was more of a big sister to me. I learnt how to face the troubles of life through her.

Giving up was never in my dictionary because whenever I look at her and see her still going despite all she was going through I realize I have a better life and have no excuse for ever stopping halfway. She was more of an inspiration and inspired me to do more.

We are not as close as we used to be anymore, which has more to do with distance than anything else. However, she'll always be a significant part of my story through life. I'll always look back and thank her for the role she played in making me who I am today.
