MUSIC A to Z Challenge #V Visage, Veruca salt and Village people.

Here is my entry for @psos  A-Z music challenge, today i'm on bands or songs starting with the letter V.

Well the end is getting close and i'll be honest it's been a long haul, if it wasn't for lockdown i'm pretty sure I would never have started this, all said it has on occasion got the grey matter working trying to remember bands and some of the hardest letters to cover are still to come.

For today lets start with a tune from the guys who helped save the UK make up industry, Visage were a big name for a short time. They really were a one hit wonder which if you look at the people involved you would think they could have achieved more. They were fronted by Steve Strange who really was more about image than talent but other members included Midge Ure and Billy Currie who soon left to form Ultravox and their main songwriter was Chris Payne of Gary Newman's Tubeway army, so the evidence suggests they should have done better. Mostly down to conflicts of personality most of the early members left to concentrate on their own projects and Strange with a constant turnover of new members tried to extend his mediocre career. They did however manage to knock out one classic thanks to Payne's writing and the great synth sounds of Dave Formula. Visage "Fade to grey".

Next up when two friends from Chicago started a band they realized their acoustic attempts were not working so they brought in a friend and the lead singers brother, together Louise Post (vocals, guitar), Nina Gordon (vocals, guitar), Steve Lack (bass) and Gordon's brother Jim Shapiro (drums) changed up their sound to produce a alternative rock sound. 5 albums later that decision seems to have paid off, this is Veruca salt, "Seether".

Well I cant walk away from this without adding these guys, a bunch of blokes in fancy dress who's awful song's have managed to stand the test of time. Village people "YMCA"

Well I could have added The Verve, Velvet underground, The Vines, Violent femmes or Vampire weekend to name a few so what I thought was going to be a difficult letter proved pretty easy.

That's your lot see you next time folks!

Gotta try and dig out some oldies, it's too easy to choose the obvious and hopefully someone will here something new to them, apart from YMCA, not sure there's a person on the planet that hasn't heard that bag of shite.
