Paseo del fin semana al zoológico // Weekend trip to the zoo

Hola familia y amigos, hace una semana visité con mi familia el Zoológico Las Delicias en Maracay, estado Aragua en Venezuela. Un lugar que me pareció muy bonito y organizado. Este zoológico fue reabierto en febrero de 2023 después de 8 años de encontrarse en remodelación y desde esa fecha teníamos muchas ganas de visitarlo pero no habíamos podido ir.

En este zoológico los animales que pudimos encontrar son en general animales de la fauna nacional con excepciones como los leones blancos, avestruces que son de origen africano y las llamas originarias de los países andinos como Perú.

Voy a empezar a contarles nuestro recorrido que duró más o menos 2 horas, ya que en ningún momento nos sentamos a descansar aunque había donde hacerlo. Nosotros estábamos ansiosos de conocer todo el lugar y ver a todos los animales.

Llegamos al zoológico como a las 10 de la mañana y a pesar de ser sábado habían pocas personas, compramos nuestra entrada, allí nos dieron nuestro brazalete identificado por color, el de mi hija que tiene 11 años fue de color amarillo, mientras que el del resto de la familia fue de color verde. En la fotografía les enseño el costo de la entrada y el porqué el color del brazalete.

Desde que entramos nos encantó el lugar y queríamos recorrerlo todo, empezamos por los avestruces, ese es un animal que ya conocíamos porque cerca de nuestra casa hace algún tiempo había una granja de avestruces dónde también criaban cerdos salvajes que fue el siguiente animal que vimos en el zoológico.

Más adelante estaba el morrocoy sabanero, habían muchos de ellos y mi hija estaba asombrada del tamaño. Ella hace muy poco tiempo tenía un pequeño morrocoy en la casa de mascota, pero creo que no le gustó, ya que se lo regaló a una prima. El caso es que al ver el tamaño al que podría llegar su pequeño morrocoy le causó asombro.

Aunque habían muchas jaulas aún vacías seguimos adelante hasta llegar al jaguar, este animal caminaba y caminada cerca de la jaula, eso nos permitió admirar su belleza y también hacernos algunas fotografías, aunque no se quedaba quieto.

En el museo pudimos aprender de la Taxidermia, que es el arte de desecar animales, también de los animales que están en peligro de extinción en Venezuela como el manatí, el oso Frontino, la tortuga arrau y el jaguar. Así como también vimos muchos animales desecados como ratones, aves y otros. Mi hijo Andrés encontró el cráneo de un león 🦁 que le pareció era muy pequeño.

Mis hijos nunca habían visto un león o bueno si lo vieron hace unos años en el zoológico Chorros de Milla en Mérida, pero estaban pequeños y no lo recuerdan, así que ver a un león blanco fue lo que más les gustó, allí estuvimos un largo rato, ya que el león caminaba y caminaba de lado a lado del cristal, era como si estuviera modelando, luego se fue hacia donde estaba la leona y empezó a jugar con ella. Me gustó mucho que de esta especie hubieran dos animales (hembra y macho) ojala algún día haya un tercer leoncito.

Aunque mi paseo favorito fue a través del habitat donde están las aves, se veían muy cerca y pudimos tomarnos fotos con ellas, como la que les muestro de mi hijo con el tucán y muchas veces teníamos que quitarnos porque quedábamos justo debajo de una de las grandes aves, mi esposo bromeaba, que nos quitáramos de allí porque si el animal hacia su necesidad fisiológica nos iba a caer encima. De todas maneras este es un tramo muy agradable, caminar por el centro de este gran domo es increíble.

Andrea quedó encantada con la granja de contacto aunque solo tocó a la pequeña vaca, al resto de los animales les tuvo miedo. Culminamos nuestro recorrido con los caimanes, llamas, venados y monos capuchinos.

Fue un excelente paseo familiar, aprendimos de muchos animales que aunque son de la fauna nacional no los podemos ver tan fácilmente en nuestra vida cotidiana. A todos nos encantó el lugar aunque pensamos que le hacen falta más animales, pero de igual manera es una excelente opción para salir de paseo.

Hello family and friends, a week ago I visited with my family the Las Delicias Zoo in Maracay, Aragua state in Venezuela. A place that I found very nice and organized. This zoo was reopened in February 2023 after 8 years of remodeling and since that date we wanted to visit it but we had not been able to go.

In this zoo the animals that we could find are generally animals of the national fauna with exceptions such as white lions, ostriches that are of African origin and llamas from the Andean countries such as Peru.

I am going to start telling you about our tour which lasted about 2 hours, since we never sat down to rest even though there was plenty of space to do so. We were anxious to get to know the whole place and see all the animals.

We arrived at the zoo at about 10 in the morning and despite being Saturday there were few people, we bought our ticket, there we were given our bracelet identified by color, my daughter’s who is 11 years old was yellow, while the rest of the family was green. In the picture I show you the cost of the ticket and the reason for the color of the bracelet.

Since we entered we loved the place and we wanted to see everything, we started with the ostriches, this is an animal that we already knew because near our house some time ago there was an ostrich farm where they also raised wild pigs, which was the next animal we saw at the zoo.

Further on was the morrocoy sabanero, there were many of them and my daughter was amazed at their size. She had a small morrocoy at home as a pet, but I don’t think she liked it, since she gave it to a cousin. The thing is, when she saw the size her little morrocoy could grow to, she was amazed.

Although there were many cages still empty, we went ahead until we reached the jaguar, this animal walked and walked near the cage, this allowed us to admire its beauty and also to take some pictures, although it did not stay still.

In the museum we were able to learn about Taxidermy, which is the art of desiccating animals, also about the animals that are in danger of extinction in Venezuela such as the manatee, the Frontino bear, the arrau turtle and the jaguar. We also saw many dried animals such as mice, birds and others. My son Andres found the skull of a lion 🦁 which he thought was very small.

My children had never seen a lion or well if they saw it a few years ago at the zoo Chorros de Milla in Merida, but they were small and do not remember it, so seeing a white lion was what they liked the most, there we were a long time, as the lion walked and walked from side to side of the glass, it was as if he was modeling, then he went to where the lioness was and began to play with her. I really liked that there were two animals of this species (female and male), hopefully someday there will be a third lion.

Although my favorite walk was through the habitat where the birds are, they were very close and we could take pictures with them, like the one I show you of my son with the toucan and many times we had to get out of the way because we were right under one of the big birds, my husband joked that we should get out of there because if the animal did its physiological need it would fall on us. Anyway, this is a very nice stretch, walking through the center of this great dome is incredible.

Andrea was delighted with the contact farm although she only touched the little cow, she was afraid of the rest of the animals. We finished our tour with the caimans, llamas, deer and capuchin monkeys.

It was an excellent family outing, we learned about many animals that although they are part of the national fauna we do not see so easily in our daily lives. We all loved the place although we think it needs more animals, but it is still an excellent option to go for a walk.
