This day I bring you an invention that besides taking care of our hands also takes care of our environment because it invites us to recycle that plastic bottle we have at home and that we have not wanted to get rid of because we think we are going to use it for something else.

Hola amigos 👋, yo sabia que volvería a esta excelente comunidad donde día a día encontramos contenido que nos facilitan nuestro trabajo en casa. Este día les traigo un invento que a demás de cuidar nuestras manos también cuidad nuestro medio ambiente porque nos invita a reciclar aquella botella de plástico que tenemos en casa y de la que no nos hemos querido deshacer porque pensamos que la vamos a usar para otra cosa.

The first thing I want you to know is that it is not my invention, but when I got to my mother’s house and saw that to wash her pots I didn’t have to put my hands on the sponge, I thought it was great, days later we went to the house of an old friend of my mother’s and in her kitchen I saw a sponge just like it. I immediately thought that one of them had copied the other.

I wasn’t wrong because when I got home I asked my mom and she told me that she had copied her friend Ana’s invention because she had found it very useful. So we decided to make one for me to take home when I get back from this trip. As I thought that more people should know about this invention and I wanted to share it with you because I am very sure that it will be of great help when washing pots, today I bring you the step by step of how to prepare your kitchen sponge so you don’t ruin your hands.

Lo primero que quiero que sepan es que no es mi invento, pero cuando llegue a casa de mi madre y vi que para lavar sus olla no tenía que ponerle las manos a la esponja, me pareció estupendo, días después fuimos a la casa de una vieja amiga de mi mamá y en su cocina vi una esponja igual. En seguida pensé que una de las dos se había copiado de la otra.

No me equivoque porque al llegar a casa le pregunté a mi mamá y me dijo que ella se había copiado el invento de su amiga Ana porque le había parecido muy útil. Entonces decidimos hacer uno para yo llevarme a mi casa cuando regrese de este viaje. Como me pareció que más personas deberían conocer de este invento y quería compartirlo con ustedes porque estoy muy segura que será de gran ayuda a la hora de lavar ollas, hoy les traigo el paso a paso de como preparar tu esponja de cocina para no estropear tus manos.

We are only going to need a special sponge for washing pots, made of stainless steel, the one my mom uses and that she gave me is from a Colombian brand, she recommended it to me because it does not rust or loosen the wires like others that I have tried and that I am sure you do too. The next material is a plastic bottle, the one we use is a 1 liter soda bottle. We will also use scissors and a kitchen knife. These are all the materials.

Solo vamos a necesitar una esponja especial para lavar ollas, de acero inoxidable, la que mi mamá usa y que me regaló es de una marca colombiana, ella me la recomendó mucho por qué no se oxida ni suelta los alambres como otras que he probado y que seguro ustedes también. El siguiente material es una botella de plástico, la que nosotras usamos es de un refresco de 1 litro. También usaremos tijeras y un cuchillo de cocina. Estos son todos los materiales.

My mom was explaining me what to do, first cut the tip of the bottle, she marked and told me that it didn’t matter if it was longer. After cutting with the knife we proceeded to measure the sponge inside the funnel.

Mi mamá me iba explicando que hacer, primero cortar la punta de la botella, ella marcó y me dijo que no importaba si quedaba más largo. Luego de cortar con el cuchillo procedimos a medir la esponja dentro del embudo.

When we noticed that it was too long, we started cutting with the scissors until the sponge protruded from the funnel. It was a job of cutting and measuring.

Al notar que había quedado muy largo, empezamos a cortar con la tijera hasta lograr que la esponja sobresaliera del embudo. Fue un trabajo de cortar y medir.

Once we have made the funnel, with one of the strips that remained when we cut, we begin to insert it into the sponge as if we were sewing in two points.

Una vez hecho el embudo, con una de las tiras que quedaron cuando cortamos, empezamos a introducir en la esponja como si estuviéramos cosiendo en dos puntos.

Once this step is done, we pass the ends through the funnel and pull hard, it is important that it is tight.

Finally you only have to place each strip on one side and place the lid to close tightly. When finished, if you see that there is still part of the bottle left over, you can cut more at the edges. We had to cut.

Listo este paso pasamos las puntas por el embudo y tiramos fuerte, es importante que quede apretado.

Por último solo tienes que colocar cada tira por un lado y colocar la tapa para cerrar fuertemente. Al terminar si ves que todavía sobra parte de la botella puedes cortar mas en las orillas. Nosotras tuvimos que cortar.

Now you just need to make it at home and see how easy it will be to leave your pots clean and shiny without the need to mistreat your delicate hands. I already have mine 😁.
