DOMINO: Strategy game. Week 159

Board games are one of the most fun ways to spend time with family or friends. In my case I do it as a family because my children have been fond of this kind of games since they were very young, so at home we have monopoly, ludo, bingo, dominoes, challenge to know, decks of cards (Spanish, French, Uno), and many others with which we have fun as a family.

The game consists of 28 pieces, divided in half, with numbers from zero to six in various combinations, usually these pieces are white with black numbers, although my domino is made of wood with white dots.

The game consists of placing the pieces on the table one by one according to the corresponding number. It can only be played by four people who will have seven pieces each and can be played in pairs or individually, the first to run out of pieces wins and the points for the winner will be the amount of points left on the dominoes in the hands of the losers.

This is a game of strategy and is played silently, and what it is about is to intuit or guess what pieces your partner or your opponent has, in the case of your partner helping him to lose pieces, not covering the piece he needs, which means to be in tune with the pieces, with respect to your opponent make him pass, which means that if he does not have a piece that matches the ones placed on the table he must give up his turn to the next player.

I learned to play dominoes with my nono (my father’s father), his house has never lacked a domino or several dominoes. I lived in his house for six years and all we did was play dominoes, my nono is so fond of this game that he even plays it alone. Whoever his opponent is, he never loses, he seems to have X-rays to know which dominoes the others have.

Although I defend myself and learned to create in my brain a game strategy, so I know which dominoes to throw if I want to get another domino I’m waiting for, my domino skills are not as good as my nono’s.

Precisely on Father’s Day Sunday I played with my 10 year old daughter and she didn’t win, until at the end she got mad and told me “mom, but you I raise you Nono” 🤣.
