     Dear friends and readers of this community, I can assure you that visiting Bogotá is an unparalleled pleasure, with its pleasant warm and temperate climate, with a temperature that ranges between 20 and 7 degrees Celsius, with rainy months in winter that decrease considerably in summer. I have had the luck and happiness of visiting the city for academic reasons or for pure pleasure, on several occasions, so I recommend a visit to this place if you ever go to Bogotá. Of this brand-new city, I am going to give you photographs, taken on a trip that the Celi Vidal family brothers-in-law, made, which I accompany with a small descriptive article of the place, which is my wish you like it.      Some time ago, the park located in the Barrio la Cabrera, in Chapinero, was called the "Parque de las Flores", because there you could see or buy all kinds of flowers. In the last years this activity has diminished, as the park has been renovated and is used for sporting purposes, such as jogging, cycling or simply walking, among trees and areas with children's games. Even now, known as “El Parque del Virrey”, located along the “El Virrey” ravine, with an 8.2-kilometer route and a surface area of 104,739 m², it has become a magnificent urban park of the Colombian capital, which serves as a place for the protection and conservation of the water source, the animal and plant species of the area, so it can be said that it is a lung of the city. Visiting it, the body and spirit are nourished with the sound of the water of the stream, the chirping of the birds and the contagious joy of the children who run freely through this park.

     On the other hand, it is the scene of artistic manifestations, a meeting place for family and friends, as well as for activities of various kinds, such as the food festival "Alimentarte", where, since 2002, for a couple of weekends visitors can tasted national and international dishes. For the performance of sports activities, mentioned above, the park has been equipped with 3 bike paths, 2 bike bridges, 6 children's areas, 3 pedestrian paths and 12 squares, it also has equipment for cardio exercises and muscle training.

     Given that the ultimate goal of the park is passive recreation and to raise awareness among Bogota citizens and visitors of the need to protect nature, high-impact sports are prohibited in it, to the point that even playing, the most popular sport of Colombians, soccer is not allowed; it is not allowed to hold mass participation events either.

     The Park is made up of three sectors: the first of them called “Ecos de la quebrada”, with just a few streets, crosses a mainly residential area, with a two-meter-wide pedestrian path and a three-meter-wide bike path. The second called "Green light" almost the same size as the previous one, from here you can see the church "La immaculada Concepción", it is an area of commerce, hotels and restaurants, in this section, in addition to continuing the pedestrian path and the bike path, there are two children's areas, a bike bridge and a small square. Finally, you reach the "Energy in motion" sector, which constitutes the largest and most spacious section, where the most popular areas of the park are located, such as the “Square of flowers” and the beautiful sculpture "La Gran Cascada".

     Estimados amigos y lectores de esta comunidad, puedo asegurarles que a visitar Bogotá es un placer sin igual, con su agradable clima cálido y templado, con una temperatura que ronda entre los 20 y los 7 grados centígrados, con meses lluviosos en invierno que disminuyen bastante en el verano. He tenido la suerte y la dicha de visitar la ciudad por razones académicas o por puro placer, en varias oportunidades, por lo que les recomiendo la visita a este lugar si llegasen a ir a Bogotá. De esta flamante ciudad les voy a hacer entrega de fotografías, tomadas en un viaje que realizó la familia Celi Vidal, cuñados, las cuales acompaño con un pequeño articulo descriptivo del lugar, que es mi deseo les agrade.      Hace un tiempo el parque ubicado en el Barrio la Cabrera, en Chapinero, se le llamaba el “Parque de las Flores”, pues allí se expendían flores de todo tipo. Desde hace años esa actividad ha mermado, pues el parque ha sido renovado y es utilizado con propósitos deportivos, como hacer footing, andar en bicicleta o simplemente pasear, entre árboles y zonas con juegos infantiles. Incluso ahora, conocido como “El Parque del Virrey”, colocado a lo largo de la quebrada de “El Virrey”, con una ruta de 8,2 kilómetros y una superficie de 104.739 m², se ha convertido en un magnífico parque urbano de la capital colombiana, que sirve de lugar de protección y conservación de la fuente de agua, las especies animales y vegetales de la zona., por lo que puede afirmarse que es un pulmón de la ciudad. Visitándolo se nutre el cuerpo y el espíritu con el sonido del agua de la quebrada, el piar de los pájaros y la alegría contagiosa de los niños que corren libremente por este parque.

     Por otra parte, es escenario de manifestaciones artísticas, lugar de reunión de familiares y amigos, así como para realizar actividades de diversos tipos, como el festival de comidas “Alimentarte”, donde, desde 2002, por un par de fines de semana se degustan platos nacionales e internacionales. Para la realización de actividades deportivas, señaladas anteriormente, el parque ha sido dotado de 3 ciclorrutas, 2 ciclopuentes, 6 zonas infantiles, 3 senderos peatonales y 12 plazoletas, cuenta complementariamente con equipos para ejercicios de cardio y entrenamiento muscular.

     En virtud de que el fin último del parque es la recreación pasiva y el de concientizar a los bogotanos y visitantes de la necesidad de proteger a la naturaleza, en él están prohibidos los deportes de alto impacto, a tal punto que incluso no se permite jugar el deporte rey de los colombianos: el fútbol, tampoco se consiente realizar eventos de participación masiva.

     El parque está conformado por tres sectores: el primero de ellos llamado “ecos de la quebrada”, de apenas unas pocas calles, atraviesa una zona fundamentalmente residencial, con un sendero peatonal de dos metros de ancho y una ciclorruta de tres metros de ancho. El segundo denominado “Luz Verde” casi del mismo tamaño que el anterior, desde aquí se puede ver la iglesia “La inmaculada Concepción”, es una zona de comercio, hoteles y restaurantes, en este tramo, además de continuar el sendero peatonal y la ciclorruta, se encuentran dos áreas infantiles, un ciclopuente y una plazoleta. Por último, se llega al sector “Energía en movimiento”, el cual constituye el tramo más grande y espacioso, donde se ubican los espacios mas concurridos del parque como la plazoleta de las flores y la bella escultura “La Gran Cascada”.
