Will I survive the night???

It is quite strange... it seems like it was only just a short time ago when I had little kids! In fact, Google still surfaces photos taken from when we first arrived back in Australia a couple years ago... or in the Netherlands... and I'm pretty sure that I had two little girls... even only just a few months ago!

Now, it appears that I have one little girl... and one little teenager. Thankfully, not a difficult one (yet...)... but there are all the teen things coming through... a focus on looks and social stuff.... being scared of standing out and all of that.

She just started high school this year... and all of her primary school friends have all gone to different schools. Thankfully, a good chunk of her friends had gone to the same high school... the local public school down the road, but a few have gone to Catholic or private schools, and some to more "exclusive" public schools.

They still keep in touch via Snapchat or Whatsapp... but the real get togethers are during the birthday sleepovers. They are still mostly inviting the ones that they knew from primary school... tonight, it is our turn.

I can hear them talking about their friends, their teachers, boys, schools, and everything... in fact, it is almost impossible to not hear them.... I don't think that they know quite how to tone down the volume at all!

And just listening in... our girl is still a touch on the naive side of things... either that or the others are playacting to be older than they actually are (probably a mix of both...).

It isn't too bad... I am pretty sure that my girl won't end up turning out to be a "mean girl"... she is a bit too nice for that... but you never know, that would be the most terrible thing! Both my wife and I were never the popular kids....

So, I wonder how this sleepover will turn out... I think the best thing that we can do is to just stay out of the way... and they will just chat themselves into oblivion sometime in the wee hours of the morning! Hopefully....

... our poor little quiet place has turned into a loud party place. No music yet, but I'm sure that that is coming soon.

... and they are now naming the friends in their new school circles... ARRRRGH, SAVE ME!!!!!
