This has gotten out of hand....

Sigh... a combination of overloaded work schedule, a sore leg, and lots of rain from storms... mixed in with a healthy dose of strong days of hot sun... well... the backyard project has gotten out of hand!
The grass looks lush I guess... one of our guest musicians was saying how lovely and spongy it was... meanwhile, I was thinking that it seriously needed a good mow and weeding... but I guess, I could look on the bright side and think that it was looking quite nice and green! But a bit further down, the weeds and other unwanted crap is also looking very lush and green, and that is going to be a pain in the arse to clear out again!
Damn it, just when we thought that we were making good steady and slow progress with the back! That said, it might only need a few days of decent hard slogging to get back in control... the bad news... well, finding those few days! I guess that this is going to be more of snatching the odd hour here and there and slowly turning it all around again!

... and I've gotten some nice new tools to help with that! A nice Banco hand saw and knife... hand for the bushes and shrubs, and maybe a thin branch or two...
... and the big prize, a decent Hoki-Hoki tool! I had read about this on gardening forums, and people swear by them as the single best gardening tool that they have ever bought! Sharp for digging straight down into soil to help with weeding... and with two edges, one sharp like a knife and the other serrated like a saw! It is like a few tools all folding into one well-crafted tool... and I've had a first go at it, and it sure beats trowels and even the tulip planter for weeding! I've loving it already!
A touch on the expensive side for a good one... but COMPLETELY WORTH IT!

I just saw an advertisement for a Hoki Hoki as well. It looks quite interesting and versatile. I'm still about a month away from having to mow the lawn I think.
Ha... you mean your wife hasn't noticed yet... that sounds like me and haircuts... I'm fine until one morning... "Your hair is really annoying!!!!"
I cut my hair every week with clippers. 😀
Hmmm... maybe that is a good way to not get noticed! I'm in a bit of a fluffy koala stage...
Everyone loves koalas!
This is a partly cranky man disguised as a koala...

Wow! That hoki hoki tools sounds amazing and perfect for the wedding and tough spots. Your garden is getting back under control, little by little.
It really makes things a good deal easier! The soil is still damp, which also makes a huge difference... so, I wonder how it will be when the ground is hard and dry.
I think it looks great and I am pretty sure my mum would think it needs mowing and weeding too if it was her lawn XD
Yay for weeding tools I think? I've always just excavated weeds out with a stick or screwdriver x_x
I use old bread knives too.
Haven't thought about that but it also would have been too flimsy for some of the wtf weeds I've encountered. I have used active bread knives to cut pool noodles though 😅
I had thought about using a screwdriver... but the lever edge seemed too thin though, especially for those big fat roots.
Bigger screwdriver? 🤣 I meant what I said when I said I excavated them 😅 (there was a lot of "drilling" around them with the screwdriver involved and I was usually trying to lever the whole thing out so trying to get through thick roots didn't bother me, those deep tap roots on the other hand 😖)
Fantastic. If i got a hoki knife I'd probably lose it in the garden haha. That lawn looks absolutely lush!! Worse things to moan about haha. Don't worry the garden is always crazy at this time of year. Easter is clean up time ready for winter.
Eeeep! Easter is just around the corner!
... and that is why you will need to buy several Hokis!
