Taking my afternoon break....

Taking my afternoon break.....jpg

Another gardening slash something else post... again, something that crosses over a bit... house maintenance, and not DIY this time! So, I'm taking some time off after a long morning of doing stuff... and the early afternoon as well, its now a bit too hot to do any more outside, and I'll return back to it when it is a little bit cooler!

Taking my afternoon break.....jpg

First chore of the day! Washing the outsides of the windows... Christmas means that there is now a huge cleaning push from my wife. Sigh, I only just finished out the year, and I want to take a well-deserved break... but nope, it is house cleaning and all of that stuff that needs to be done before Christmas for some reason!

So, the insides of the windows were all cleaned yesterday, and that means that the outsides need to be cleaned as well... so that we can have a few weeks of clean windows! Interestingly enough, now the birds are slamming into all the windows now that they are not quite as visible! We have had two bird strikes already!

Speaking of animals, we are trying to figure out what sort of animal is coming up onto our patio and leaving these droppings! Perhaps kangaroos... or wombats?

The nemesis returns... this bloody passionfruit vine suddenly appeared about 5 metres away from where I had been solidly and steadily removing shoots and roots. It was tangled up in a bushy tree and I hadn't noticed it until the recent rain and sun made it stick right out!

The shoots all lead back to a single point and I was able to get most of the roots out, but it does mean that I need to start to keep an eye out in a larger circle than I had previously thought! Nasty bugger...

However, the main chore of the day was the slashing and pulling up of the long grass down the back of the garden. I want to do this before the weather gets too much warmer... there are already snakes around the area, and I don't want them being hidden in the grass.

Taking my afternoon break.....jpg

While I've been going at it with pitchfork and hands, I've been seeing quite a few of these little grubs. The local family of birds are also hanging around close... waiting for me to unearth them a little treat or two!

Taking my afternoon break.....jpg

I'm not bothering with the lawnmower for today... I'm just slashing it all down and letting it decompose in place. I've been reading more about how some people are just removing too much of the nutrients from their blocks as they tidy up and get rid of all the cuttings instead of letting it leach back into the ground.

Taking my afternoon break.....jpg

I've cleared those rocks in the foreground, whipper snipped quite a bit more in the clear areas... and that is a one of two large sides that need to be done.

Taking my afternoon break.....jpg

... a couple of hours later, and I've done quite a larger patch... I'm not too careful, I'm not trying to clear the grass completely, more that I'm just trying to get rid of the long stuff. I want to plant the fruit trees soon... I'm sort of sick of doing this quite so often!

Taking my afternoon break.....jpg

... and this will be the job for later in the afternoon... a large strip that will be the bulk of the remaining bits... and then there are bits nearer to the house that need to be done. Yay... productive feeling, but quite tiring still!

I want to ask whether kangaroos live freely in your country? I have never seen a kangaroo in person @bengy

Oh yes, they are roaming around quite freely around us... the other day there were a family of 6 kangaroos just up the street. A bit dangerous at times, as they will cause some serious damage to a car!
