The big question is how to plant the chickens to get the eggs...
I think we have space for a rooster, but I'm a bit concerned that it would be a touch noisy in a suburban area. We had little chickens when I was little... I wouldn't eat chicken for years!

Check with your neighbours to see if they'd be okay with it and then make a rooster box and don't let it out til a reasonable time? We did that with a rooster for a while. I don't know about your area but in ours the council doesn't care unless someone complains. At one stage we had council workers out the front and they were laughing at the rooster that was crowing menacingly at them.
