Potting a Sweet Potato thing?

Potting a Sweet Potato thing?.jpg

Ahhhh... everything is still blooming like crazy at the moment... with the hot sun and the summer storms, it is humid and warm... which means that flowers are out, trees and plants are green, and the grass and weeds are tall. I do have to get back out and keep the grass down, as there are snakes in the area around us and I would definitely prefer that they don't find our backyard to be a nice place to hang out!

... but first, a strange gift from one of my wife's students. A sweet potato hybrid that they had done themselves from cuttings? Well, our garden wicker beds are nowhere near ready, so they are going to have to go into a large standing bed instead. And that is quite a large chunk of potting mix that we need! About 4 full bags there... I'm always quite surprised by the amount that we need!

... and in they go! I read that they are a bit like climbers/creepers... so, I'll let the spread themselves out on the wiring of the guard fence. I do have to fix that wire as well at some point in time... the hook had popped loose of the rivets, so I am going to have to learn about how to fix that!

Near the driveway and car port, the bushes that we planted when we first arrived have taken hold nicely, and they are starting to flower as well! My in-laws said that their ones didn't really flower so often... so, it is quite nice to see that one of the three are showing off some really nice little white flowers!

The male kiwi is growing like crazy... it is a single vine that is nearly halfway up the trainer wire already, and quite sturdy as well. However, the two female ones are a little bit slower... this is the better one, and it has finally reached the training wire, and so I have to gently remove it from the pole and wrap it around the trainer wire.

There are three vine shoots though... and they will share the same trainer... I hope that they don't choke each other!

... and there we go! I will try to straighten them out a little bit in the coming weeks... they are still a bit skewed, but I'll slowly move them up the wire!

This time of the year, is has a lot of mixed feeling. First you see how beautifully something has blossomed and how well things are performing. Only to realize the grass and weeds need to be attended to like yesterday. Beautiful post, thank you for sharing.

It's great the idea of letting the vines spread all over the wiring, some time ago I went to visit a country resort and they had a sitting area where the roof was made of parchita vines, it protected from the sun and it was very cool.

Yes it will work really well... And the best part is that in winter, the leaves die away so that you have light in the darker months.

Kiwi is a strange one, I always had thought that it grew on trees!

I must say that your gardening skill is top notch and I learned a few things even though I don't have an active garden at the moment.

You are doing pretty well and I hope the weather favours you further... Cheers to a beautiful week.
