New Gutter Valley Guard Works!

I had pretty high hopes for the metal mesh that I had installed in our gutter valley on the roof.... this was the area that would catch lots of the leaves from our trees, and when it rained it would overflow along the valley and at the bottom where the valley would meet the gutter properly. If I wasn't diligent about clearing the valley, this would mean that the bottom and the whole length would be clogged with leaves and debris and the water would potentially spill over into the walls and the roof in heavy rain. Definitely not something that I was keen to let happen on a regular basis...
... on the other hand, it was all too easy to forget to jump up onto the roof every now and then... especially during busier periods of work or if I was travelling a lot. Add to that, that our ladder is currently out on loan to a family member to help with their renovations... and it means that getting up onto the roof is a bit of an more involved process than normal.
So, that had spurred me to try and seek a better solution that would slow down the amount of debris that would collect in the roof valley. And this wider and more expensive wire mesh fit the bill...
And as you can see, it has definitely kept the actual gutter area clear... really clear, it was almost as clean as when I had installed it! Which would allow for easy flow of water down to the main gutter system.
As far as I can tell, the build of the leaves on the side wouldn't affect the flow of the water too much... at the very least, it wouldn't direct it under the tiles. But I would just clean them up anyway so that the flow of the water would go easier into the valley.

... and most importantly, at the intersection of the valley and the gutter was a good deal less messy than previously. This would always be the most likely point to overflow, as the gutter wasn't able to get rid of water fast enough due to the clog in the corner and intersection. There were a few leaves, but nothing even remotely close to previously.
Next project is to just to slightly increase the gradient on the gutter. They are old, and over time they have settled to bit too much on the level, so a few degrees higher at this intersection will help the water get away faster.
The tradie family members said that just putting a little wedge under some of the supports under the gutter should be enough to give it the few degrees that it needs!
So, a rare minor success in my homecare handiwork!

Huzzah! I forget is that going to hold or do you need to do something else with it eventually?
We need to get new gutters (on the very long list of things to do with this house 😑) and it's another eternal point of contention 😅
We'll, I'm hoping that it will hold for a while... the metal is quit springy (it wants to flatten out), and so it is pushing and being held in place by the tiles. Fingers crossed that it remains like that with a firm strucutre!
