All Saints Church: Sydney, AUSTRALIA.jpg

As usual, my job takes me to some rather unusual places... and that has also been the case in Australia as I start to re-explore the various cities that have changed so significantly in the intervening decades since I was last living here.

Anyway, this particular visit was to an old (for Australia) Anglican church in the Sydney northern suburb of Hunters Hill... seemed like a pretty affluent area, with only bus connections and no train line. Pain in the arse to get to, but I guess that is the appeal for those who can afford it.

The church is a beautiful old sandstone building that houses many weddings.. and I'm not exactly sure how old it is, but it suspect that it dates from before the Federation of Australia.

Oddly enough, for a suburb that looks so wealthy on the surface, they are afflicted by the same problems as other less well-off areas... namely, in Sydney, the problem of low flying aircraft that stem from an ill-placed international and domestic airport. Seriously, it was pretty loud most of the time... and quite frequent! I would have thought that a touch of wealth and privilege would be able to push it over other areas of Sydney... but I guess that those things are a relative measure, and it is possible that on the affluent North Shore side of things, Hunter's Hill is lower on the pecking order in comparison!

Still... if you can ignore the dull and constant roar of the planes, you do have some really nice areas to sit down to reflect around the church grounds.

... and inside there are quite spectacular stained glass windows that are well lit from the bright summer Sun of Australia. The church has sunny and open facings on all sides, so every wall and window has its chance to shine brightly throughout the day!

What a beautiful church, I really like the architecture in general and also the stained glass windows.

Yes, I love these old sandstone/limestone buildings. Not as old as other countries, but quite nice still!
