A few more Australian silver pieces.

A few more Australian pieces. .jpg

While I was away on tour, I put in more stinky bids for spot price of various things that were up for auction on a deceased estate. Pretty much everything got wiped... and I was a bit sad to see a few my serious bids on the pure silver ones and some gold leaf banknotes get wiped out as well. Ah well, better luck next time on the serious ones!

Anyway, I did win two stinky bid lots though... nothing that impressive, a handful of 0.5 silver content Australian pieces from the 1950's. I have quite a few of these, and these particular ones aren't in especially great condition or anything like that... but again, stinky bids at spot price or below for the precious metal content. I'm happy to pick up little pieces here and there with that sort of horrific bidding... and save the serious bids for something really nice (like those pure silver or gold leaf ones that I missed out on...).

However, the little star of this little batch was the 1941 Florin that is a better content level at 92.5 percent. It has a nicer feeling to it... but again, it isn't anything special in terms of quality... and in terms of my existing little collection, it joins a large batch of Australian Silver Florins from a similar time period... I actually prefer the ones that I have from earlier in the 20th century!

So, nothing stand out extraordinary in this stinky batch... but silver is silver... and I might just flip the 0.5 content ones on Marketplace or Gumtree so that I have a bit of loose change to top up my proper serious bids!

Competition must be tough there, you got at least the 92.5% coin with a few 50%s at least you didn't leave empty handed. I'm not getting much luck here across the Pacific. I've been seeing just base metal coins in yard sales and nearby estate sale, nothing outstanding. Congrats @bengy

Yeah, things in Australia are quite overpriced.. much worse than Europe I'm finding... so, I'm seeing a lot of my stinky bids just get wiped out.

Congratulations on the pick-ups! I haven't had the chance to participate in an estate sale, but I've heard things can get overpriced quickly when people way overbid.

Yeah, I think that people often forget about the whopping 22.5 percent markup for the auction house that gets added on.

Yeah, I think you're right, and by then, it's too late.

I heard others call them junk silver? To me, they are just interesting little bits of the past!

I really don't have much stuff from Australia, they have produced some nice coins. I just don't see that many in the US. Great silver! Sterling is a nice silver content for circulating coins.

The Sterling ones are definitely nice ones... the 50 percent ones, well... I will likely try to flip them on the second hand market. I miss the European markets though... there were always lots of different nationality coins!
