2 new interesting ounces of silver

The price of silver has dipped enough for me to drop by the coin/bullion shop and take a little bit of a peek through their buyback box. I do enjoy doing this, as there is always a chance that there is something interesting in there... and then there are other times, when it is all just generic stuff.

.... and this time, the shopfront was pretty quiet. Just one guy selling a pile of silver and gold... and me rifling through the silver box! So, I could just take my time and look properly at everything... other times, the place is busy, and I just rush through and grab whatever first catches my eye.

This time, most of the box was just Apmex silver rectangles and circles... not that interesting for me, the design is just nothing. There were a few Australian kangaroos, but nothing that immediately leapt out as a definite one that I'd like.

However, there was this nice interesting dragon-like bird design... that was the first one that I saw on the top of the box, and I immediately put that one aside as a potential keeper. Slightly dulled and tarnished, but still worth it!

The coin is a Samoan silver piece... I don't think I have any Samoan pieces, so this is a bit of a interesting first for my collection as well!

... and then hidden down the bottom, past the generic blocks and circles... was this awesome rearing horse from Golden State Mint! Woo... this was a nice find. And it was still in nice shiny condition due to the case that it was in. A beautiful design for this one!

... and I'm happy that the reverse side was devoted to something that wasn't just the mint's regular stamp. The chinese animal calender! Awesome!!!!

Right? That's always a concerning sign when the buyback boxes are empty.

Nice adds to the stack, I haven't been getting anything exotic lately, just a few regular Maple leafs at a time.

Those are pretty cool as well... definitely better than the plain ApMEX one!

Using the dip in the silver price as the trigger to check the buyback box is a sensible approach, since that is when premiums on secondary pieces tend to be most reasonable. The Samoan piece and the Golden State Mint rearing horse sound like much better value for a collector than the generic Apmex rounds. Do you find the buyback box prices track spot closely, or does the shop keep a wider margin on the more unusual designs?

Yeah, I do like collecting the ones that have some interesting artwork... I do like the silver for silver's sake thing, but there is something really special about the interesting design ones!

All the buyback pieces are the same price, a few dollars above spot... and nothing addittional for the unsual things... differnet matter for the new first-hand coins though!

If I had money for this kind of nonsense (or maybe if I stopped spending it on the garden and aquariums and quilting stuff I might but priorities XD) I would totally have snaffled the phoenix as well, it's beautiful :O Love the horse coin as well, I do like art coins.
