Traveling as a volunteer has changed my life for the better!

Hello to all my dear hivers, it is a pleasure to be here today! I bring you some images and words of reflection about my volunteering experience.

If there is something I learned being a volunteer, it is that people believe that we need more than what we really need, if I repeat the word.

After my second volunteering I recognized that this activity is not for everyone, because really enjoying it requires extreme humility and vocation of service almost without expecting anything in return, even if you are really receiving your own bed to sleep in and your own food.

I must say that as a good Virgo person that I am, the fact of serving was not a problem at all, and what I liked the most about being a volunteer is that I managed to develop my humility even more.

Viajar como voluntaria me cambió la vida para bien!!

Hola a todos mis queridos hivers, es un placer estar hoy por aquí! Les traigo unas imágenes y palabras de reflexión sobre mi experiencia voluntariando.

Si hay algo que aprendí siendo voluntaria, es que las personas creemos que necesitamos más de lo que realmente necesitamos, valga la repetición de la palabra.

Tras mi segundo voluntariado reconocí que esta actividad no es para todas las personas, pues disfrutarla realmente, requiere de humildad extrema y vocación de servicio casi sin esperar nada a cambio, aunque estés recibiendo en verdad, tu propia cama donde dormir y tu comida.

Debo decir, que como buena persona de virgo que soy, el hecho de servir no fue para nada un problema, y lo que más me gustó de ser voluntaria es que logré desarrollar más mi humildad.

Yes, there were times when I wondered why so many years of study if I was really making beds in a hostel and without receiving a salary, but most of the time, I found myself rejoicing in the feeling of discovering that as a human being, in the end I didn't need so many things to live and be happy.

I don't want to label myself as a "minimalist" because I really don't like categories and I do sometimes buy things knowing that they are not really necessary.

However, volunteering for 10 months on and off showed me a lot about life, much more than any other activity has shown me.

I discovered that I can make friends in just one day if the energy between me and others is conducive to it; I discovered that a stranger can lend you a life-saving hand; I discovered that human kindness exceeds family and friendship ties; I discovered that there is an energy that guides and protects you even in the darkest of nights; I discovered that the food I give to my soul is far more important than any object I can adorn my life with.

Sí hubo momentos en los que me pregunté el para qué tantos años de estudio si en verdad estaba armando camas en un hostel y encima sin recibir un sueldo, pero la mayoría de las veces, me encontré regocijándome en la sensación de descubrir que como ser humano, pues al final no necesitaba tantas cosas para vivir y ser feliz.

No quiero catalogarme como “minimalista” porque en verdad no me agradan las categorías y además sí que a veces compro cosas siendo consciente de que no son realmente necesarias.

Sin embargo, voluntariar durante 10 meses de manera intermitente, me mostró mucho de la vida, mucho más de lo que cualquier otra actividad me ha mostrado.

Descubrí que puedo hacer amigos en tan solo un día si la energía entre los otros y yo es propicia para ello; descubrí que un extraño puede tenderte una mano que te salve la vida; descubrí que la bondad humana excede los lazos familiares y de amistad; descubrí que hay una energía que te guía y protege aun en las noches más oscuras; descubrí que el alimento que le doy a mi alma es mucho más importante que cualquier objeto con el que pueda adornar mi vida.

I volunteered for months. I volunteered in Italy, in Genoa and in Torre del Colle; I volunteered in Canet de Fals, Spain; also in Hannover, Germany, and in Tel Aviv, Israel.

In my volunteer work I fell madly in love with life, I fell in love with the sensation of smiling for no apparent reason (although later I discovered that the reason was gratitude), I fell in love with the strangers who illuminated my steps with messages that guided my walk, I fell more in love with the Universe and I corroborated that this Force, Energy, God or whatever you want to call it, is in each one of us, making all of us, one.

Being a volunteer was the greatest blessing for me, and although I did not receive any economic income, today, three months after having completed that part of the trip, I recognize that the gains I had infinitely exceed the money.

What I learned, I could only have learned by walking the path I chose.

Fui voluntaria durante meses. Voluntarié en Italia, en Génova y en Torre del Colle; voluntarié en Canet de Fals, España; también en Hannover, Alemania, y en Tel Aviv, Israel.

En mis voluntariados me enamoré perdidamente de la vida, me enamoré de la sensación de sonreír sin aparente motivo (aunque luego descubrí que ese motivo era el agradecimiento), me enamoré de los desconocidos que alumbraban mis pasos con mensajes que guiaban mi andar, me enamoré más del Universo y corroboré que esa Fuerza, Energía, Dios o como quieras llamarle, está en cada uno de nosotros, haciendo de todos, uno solo.

Ser voluntaria fue para mí la mayor bendición, y aunque no recibí ingreso económico alguno, hoy, tres meses después de haber culminado aquella parte del viaje, reconozco que las ganancias que tuve superan infinitamente al dinero.

Lo que aprendí, tan solo pude haberlo hecho transitando el camino que elegí.
