Along the edges of the mountain where I usually walk there are hamlets where small farmers live. Common pets in the area are dogs and cats. The villagers seek protection from rodents or any intruder that arrives unannounced.

A lo largo de los bordes de la montaña por donde suelo caminar hay caseríos donde viven pequeños agricultores. Las mascotas comunes en el área son perros y gatos. Los aldeanos buscan protección contra los roedores o cualquier intruso que llegue sin previo aviso.

A terrifying scream stopped in front of one of the houses I was passing. I saw cats running after other cats. One of the cats was embedded in a hole that apparently was not easy for all of them to enter. The terrified screams continued to rise. The meowing was from the hidden cat who was in heat. At that moment I did not think of animal behavior but of human behavior.

Un grito aterrador se detuvo frente a una de las casas por las que pasaba. Vi gatos corriendo detrás de otros gatos. Uno de los gatos estaba incrustado en un agujero por el que aparentemente no era fácil para todos entrar. Los gritos de terror continuaron aumentando. El maullido era del gato escondido que estaba en celo. En ese momento no pensé en el comportamiento animal sino en el comportamiento humano.

As a woman I felt terrified, I can't imagine being mistreated for sex. I imagined those hard and sad moments that some people have gone through and I don't even want to mention. The meows were for me a language of fear, anguish, desperation, cries for help. Several cats were placed in strategic places to start their housebreaking. They all showed the same intention, to mount the cat.

Los maullidos eran para mí un lenguaje de miedo, angustia, desesperación, gritos de auxilio. Se colocaron varios gatos en lugares estratégicos para iniciar su allanamiento de morada. Todos mostraron la misma intención, montar al gato.

It really is the nature of felines, wild sex. The female emits a desperate meow to attract the attention of other cats. With the meowing she expresses her desire to be mounted and that is why the males approach her.

Estaba tomando fotos para dejar constancia, él estaba atento por si quería complacerlo, otros gatos en cambio no quitaban la vista del lugar donde estaba el gato.Realmente es la naturaleza de los felinos, el sexo salvaje. La hembra emite un maullido desesperado para llamar la atención de otros gatos. Con el maullido expresa su deseo de ser montada y por eso los machos se acercan a ella.

Still, I got the impression that the female did not want to be mounted by any of the four males. Maybe I'm wrong and the hiding is another seductive strategy of the female cat. I stopped for about fifteen minutes to see what was going on and it turned out that the cats laid down in a specific spot without taking their eyes off the target. The cat kept silent, this attitude of the female caused suspicion, I kept affirming that she did not want to be mounted.

Aún así, tuve la impresión de que la hembra no quería ser montada por ninguno de los cuatro machos. Quizás me equivoque y esconderse es otra estrategia seductora de la gata. Me detuve durante unos quince minutos para ver qué estaba pasando y resultó que los gatos se tumbaron en un lugar específico sin apartar la vista del objetivo. La gata guardó silencio, esta actitud de la hembra despertó sospechas, yo seguí afirmando que no quería que la montaran.

Sex between these animals is very wild. By the way, it is more common to see a dog riding a bitch than a cat riding a cat. Personally, I have never seen feline mating. I have seen the mistreatment suffered by the female, they say that the males mistreat them when they mount her and the female becomes a beast after the act.

Could the fact that there were four cats around her have scared her away?

El sexo entre estos animales es muy salvaje. Por cierto, es más común ver un perro montando una perra que a un gato montando una gata. Personalmente, nunca he visto el apareamiento felino. He visto los maltratos sufrido por la hembra, dicen que los machos las maltratan cuando la montan y la hembra se vuelve una fiera luego del acto. In the case of dogs, a female can mate with several males. However, by nature, the best genetics will always be sought for survival reasons. Felines follow this same law. The female always waits for the male that dominates the anxious herd, the strongest one will have more chances to mount her although the others could wait for another opportunity.

En el caso canino una hembra puede aparearse con varios machos. Sin embargo, por naturaleza siempre se buscará la mejor genética por temas de supervivencia. Los felinos siguen esta misma ley. La hembra siempre espera el macho que predomina ante la manada ansiosa, el más fuerte tendrá más posibilidades de montarla aunque los otros podrían esperar otra oportunidad.

In Venezuela there is no control of cat reproduction. There are more and more felines that we observe in the communities, working and in need. The campaigns for animal protection have been exhausted, there are no projects that cover so many animals to avoid their propagation. This issue continues to be of great concern to the population.

En Venezuela no se tiene control con el tema de la reproducción de gatos. Cada vez son más los felinos que observamos en las comunidades pasando trabajo y necesidades. Las campañas para la protección animal se han agotado, no hay proyectos que abarque para tantos animales donde se evite la propagación de ellos. Este asunto sigue siendo de gran preocupación para la población.
