Ragnarok Season 1 Review: I didn't watch it, I survived it

Ragnarok is a Norwegian series that chronicles random but connected events within a town. The story focuses on the life of Magne and his connection to ancient Norse deities.

Netflix had a version that was dubbed in English but I've always enjoyed watching movies in their original language. Of course, this will mean reading subtitles, and I don't mind that because I get a better feel of the movie.

The protagonist was Magne, a teenager with a learning disorder that comes from a family that's struggling financially. There's not been said about how his dad died or his gay cross-dressing brother but it is safe to say there's some mysterious shit about him.

The antagonists for this season were the elite Jutul family that is apparently the 5th richest family in Norway, according to the series. The problem started when the father of the Jutul family killed Magne's only friend and seatmate at school.

In the months that followed, Magne consistently investigated the case and then a lot of things started to unravel in the process. The first on the list was the fact that the Jutuls are polluting the water in the town and the second is that he has superpowers.

Let me start by saying that when I saw the title of the series, I was expecting e bit more kick in terms of the action and violence. Hell, I figured it will have something to do with Thor and right I was, however, my requirement for ass-kicking wasn't served.

Magne was randomly gifted the Power of thor, which gave him super strength, speed, and fast healing, amongst other things. However, he managed to keep it secret from everybody but the antagonists and the weird old lady that gave him the power in the first place.

Opinion

Overall, it was pretty lame, in fact, the only reason I continued watching was that I already started, and I wanted to write this review. The series took too damn long to start and even the good parts were few and far between them.

The entire series felt like it was a hippy version of Twilight, fused with gay ass fight scenes and many cringe plot holes. It is a slow-burner series, with a predictable plot and just quite bleh.

If you're going to watch it, I suggest you dampen your expectations and prepare your mind for a chick flick. Nothing else to add to that.

It's quite slow and tedious to watch tbh. Graphics wasn't so good either and the fight scenes were laboured
