When all the rage years ago was talking about military and education spending, nobody would touch this one because of the fact that older voters vote in much higher numbers. This entitlement system was never designed to be used in the way that it is now and it is guaranteed to be insolvent, if it isn't already. I've already made plans in my life to not need it thankfully because I believe you are right, by the time I am old enough to actually get it, it likely wont exist and if it does, it shouldn't.

I never really thought of it as a Ponzi scheme but that is exactly what it is.

If they had avoided stealing all the funds years ago, and allowed competent investment; the system would be stable.

If they refused to use it for support of orphans, which was well beyond it's scope; and the job of churches and relatives, it would be in a lot better shape today!

What they can't seem to understand is that government has two jobs, and only two jobs! Common defense, and mitigation of disputes between states.

The rest is none of their damn business, and beyond their authority! Tyranny begins with small steps, until freedom herself has been trod into oblivion....

Makes me think of one of my favorite quotes:

"If something isn't broken, the government will fix it until it is."

That covers everything that's going on today, for certain!
