Un día como hoy, el 30 de marzo de 1853, nació en Zundert, Países Bajos, Vincent van Gogh, uno de los grandes pintores de todos los tiempos, quien formó parte de ese grupo extraordinario de artistas que pintaron a finales del siglo XIX y rompieron con todos los esquemas clásicos de la pintura, otorgándole luz y movimiento a sus cuadros, saliendo al aire libre a pintar lo que veían, tal como lo percibían.

Entre todos esos grandes artistas destaca Van Gogh por la gran incomprensión que acompañó su vida, la profunda soledad que vivió, que lo llevó finalmente a quitarse la vida a los 37 años, con un disparo de escopeta. Por eso quise iniciar esta entrada para ustedes con la canción "Vincent", que le compuso el cantante Don McLean. Es paradójico que algunos de los grandes genios del arte tengan vidas tan difíciles y sin embargo, nos regalen obras extraordinarias. Sólo su hermano Theo, creyó fielmente en Vincent y lo apoyó incondicionalmente.

Su padre fue un austero pastor protestante. El pintor holandés apenas tuvo educación formal, decidió abandonar los estudios definitivamente cuando tenía 15 años. Al año siguiente, en 1869, comienza a trabajar como aprendiz en una compañía internacional de comercio de arte, Goupil & Co., de la que su tío Vincent era socio. En los años siguientes, trabajó como marchant de obras de arte en Londres, y en mayo de 1875 llega por primera vez a París, donde crece su amor al arte. Pero en 1878 es despedido por querer imponer sus gustos en la venta de las obras, tenía un carácter difícil y un temperamento fuerte; pero su hermano menor, Theo inició en la compañía su trabajo como marchant y años después venderá las obras de su hermano y lo ayudará a sobrevivir en momentos de penuria económica.

Algunas de sus obras que más me gustan o conmueven no son los paisajes que pintó, son esas pinturas de espacios cotidianos, su pequeña habitación en Arles, su pintura de unas botas viejas, que retratan la vida de pobreza que vivió, son obras honestas que no se exhibieron en los grandes salones.

El gran cineasta japonés Akira Kurosawa en su película "Sueños" dedica una parte de su película a la obra de van Gogh, es un hermoso homenaje. También un popular grupo español toma su nombre como homenaje al pintor holandés, el grupo "La oreja de van Gogh". Su influencia en artistas es amplia.

On a day like today, March 30, 1853, Vincent van Gogh was born in Zundert, Netherlands, one of the greatest painters of all times, who was part of that extraordinary group of artists who painted in the late nineteenth century and broke with all the classic schemes of painting, giving light and movement to his paintings, going outdoors to paint what they saw, as they perceived it.

Among all those great artists, Van Gogh stands out for the great misunderstanding that accompanied his life, the deep loneliness he lived, which finally led him to take his own life at the age of 37, with a shotgun blast. That is why I wanted to start this entry for you with the song "Vincent", composed for him by singer Don McLean. It is paradoxical that some of the great geniuses of art have such difficult lives and yet they give us extraordinary works. But in 1878 he was fired for wanting to impose his tastes in the sale of works, he had a difficult character and a strong temperament; but his younger brother, Theo began his work as a dealer in the company and years later he would sell his brother's works and help him survive in times of economic hardship.

Some of his works that I like or move me the most are not the landscapes he painted, they are those paintings of everyday spaces, his small room in Arles, his painting of old boots, which portray the life of poverty he lived, they are honest works that were not exhibited in the great salons.
