Expedition, or calm before the storm.

Expedition, or calm before the storm.

I would like to present to you a painting, completed today, which I called "Expedition, or calm before the storm."

A huge galleon approached an unknown island in order to replenish supplies of fresh water and provisions, and at that moment the sea was completely calm.

The sails were useless, the wind no longer filled them with its gusts. and on the horizon was the coming of a great storm.

Galleon cannot be taken away from the shore, he is trapped.

The ship's captain decided to rescue his crew.

They went down into the boat and went to the shore, where he could watch the sea battle that would unfold with the onset of the storm.

I think that the storm will pass by and the ship's crew will be able to return to the galleon and continue their expedition, the difficult choice of the ship's captain and his crew is probably the main idea of this picture.

I am not an expert in shipbuilding, I guess that you will find a lot of inconsistencies in the structure of the ship's rigging, this is only my imagination, I did not look for sources in order to spy on them, this is that what is in my memory.

It's not very easy to create something interesting from a pile of bricks lol.

Going out onto the balcony, I saw a puddle that had formed on the flat roof of a neighboring building.

Many bricks were scattered in the middle of the puddle I thought it would be fun to do something about it.

Next, I determined the place where the sun will shine and where there will be an approaching storm.

The brick started to look like a galleon, but I still had a lot to do.

2DSC02454.png

The masts began to rise upward.

3DSC02454.png

I did not focus on the exact number of sail yards, I did everything approximately.

4DSC02454.png

There are three masts, but I decided to portray a four-masted ship, for the sake of solidity. lol.

6DSC02454.png

Rigging, I guess. this is the most time consuming part of the picture, it was like carving a netsuke from a walrus tusk.

7DSC02454.png

Let's add some more cables and ropes.

8DSC02454.png

Now that the sails are assembled, you cannot leave the ship during a storm with the sails lowered.

9DSC02454.png

Now, the galleon has become like a ship.

12DSC02454.png

Lowered flags appeared on the masts, which show us that there is no movement of air masses. complete calm.

Now, it's time to go to work with shadow and light.

15DSC02454.png

A storm has appeared on the horizon and you see a boat with the crew of the ship, which moors to the shore.

The crew escaped, hoping that the ship does not crash on the rocks.
