This is a summary from what I learnt today.

Matthew 22:37-39
King James Version
37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38 This is the first and great commandment.
39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

God's greatest commandment to us, His creation, is to love Him with all our hearts, souls, minds, and strength, and to love our neighbors as ourselves.

The love we're supposed to offer shouldn't just be words; it should be backed up by deeds. "Actions speak louder than words," as the adage goes.
Our love should not be limited to those close to us, but should extend to all of humanity (both the good and the bad).

Matthew 5:44-45
King James Version
44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

No one is excluded from receiving our love, including our enemies. Remember that we are both God's creations, and if God continues to give us life in order to demonstrate His love, how much more will His creations?
We are to love everyone without regard for their feelings.

Luke 6:35
King James Version
35 But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.

We must endeavor to do good to all whether they be of same household or not.

The question is why should we love our enemies ?

1 Corinthians 9:20-22
King James Version
20 And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law;
21 To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law.
22 To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.

The major purpose of God's instruction to love our enemies is to bring them to faith in Christ.
We should show people who are not of Christ the right road to pursue via love. When we love those who are not believers in Christ, we give them the opportunity to repent.

So our goal is to win the souls of those who are not yet believers in Christ, and there is no better way to do so than to show them love and demonstrate that Christ loves and cares for them as well.

1 Timothy 2:4
King James Version
4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

We can win people to Christ by teaching them to love one another.

We can't say we love unless we can forgive, and forgiving those who have harmed us is the first step in demonstrating love.

Acts 24:16
King James Version
16 And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void to offence toward God, and toward men.

To properly practice love, our hearts must be free of whatever wrongs that have been done to us or that we have done. As a result, we must learn to own our mistakes and forgive quickly.

Matthew 5:7
King James Version
7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.

Finally, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone. Giving food to those in need, including our enemies, providing shelter for those without one if we can, and other acts of kindness are all examples of love.

Galatians 6:10
King James Version
10 As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.

Thanks be to God.
