Games with exposure

Spring gives birth to stormy streams. After the winter lull, I want a little movement, colors, new impressions. Why not.

I went for a walk and I didn't have a tripod with me. We were just walking. And when I saw this rapid flow, of course I remembered about the long exposure.

Soon there will be a lot of water and I had to warm up and refresh my skills with manual settings. In a good way... here you need a tripod and a neutral gray filter. But I was not ready for this meeting, I had only a camera with me.

Shooting with hands does not guarantee the quality of photos at long exposures. The lowest at which I got a more or less normal result was 1/15 sec.

Below I give you a photo with different shutter speeds and different resulting effect for comparison.

It wasn't a serious test, but based on the results, you can imagine the result of changing the shutter speed. It is interesting to take pictures here using a tripod and ND filter. Someday I will definitely do it.

Water is always such a captivating photographic subject. The way it reflects the light around it, the way it flows, the way it impacts the lighting of everything around it.

I want to use a vessel of water as a reflector to do some crazy, caustics driven portraits one day.

Light is fun :)

An interesting idea, try a flat aquarium))
Yes, I agree, there is always charm in the water. Whether it is standing or moving, it is always different and interesting. There are many properties and possibilities.

Probably easier to find a rock pool at a beach, or a small lake / pond. Than to carry out a small aquarium to a location. Could probably cheat it with a shallow bowl, a stick blender, and a powerful light source.

If you shoot outside the house, then the aquarium is definitely superfluous))
You can also try a durable plastic bag. You can pour water into it on the spot. As an option.

At this point, might be able to get away with just a water bottle and a torch :)

The ways to manipulate light are endless. I'll never explore them all.

I have not yet have ND filter, but that is already on my future list. hopefully I can have one in the future and play with long exposure.

With a long shutter speed, you can start the game without an ND filter. Cloudy day, evening, night, room...clamped aperture, minimum ISO... :-)

You have a steady hand, I can tell! No blur at 1/15, that's impressive :)
Sometimes I just put the camera on the ground, on my hat or another piece of cloth, or on my backpack. Then I set the 10 seconds delay just to avoid any movement of the camera from my hands or while smashing down the hat, lol.

I didn't have a backpack, I didn't have any supports, and there was wet snow under my feet))
The camera has a good 5-axis stabilization. If you take a stable position, you can turn into a tripod))
