Hive or HBD which one is better to hold long term

avatar

This has always been a great argument or a good topic for discussion. We have to consider the parameters of both Hive as well as HBD and arrive at a decision. Hive blockchain is a place we have enormous opportunities. Not just in the form of investment but also in the form of gaming and blogging. More than just for blogging, Hive is used as a platform with so many other functions.

If we have plans to just invest and look for profits in the long term, then HBD is the best investment. If we are looking forward to engaging more in the form of content writing or through commenting and blogging, having a decent Hive stake is good. Hive power gives the facility to curate others from the reward pool.

HBD is an on-chain investment opportunity

HBD is a DeFi on the Hive blockchain. It is an on-chain investment opportunity where we are able to keep our HBD on savings and get a 20% APR for that. I don't think any other chain has this opportunity on-chain for a stablecoin. Another great advantage is that the locking period is only 3 days. Another great advantage is that the interest can be claimed every 30 days instead of waiting for a longer period of time.

The price of HBD is also very stable. In the last few bear markets, the price of HBD held stable and we were able to see the other coins go up and down but HBD was around 1$ most of the time. Even if it goes down suddenly, it recovered back. People who are not very active on Hive can make use of HBD as an opportunity to invest and just reap the profits alone. They don't have to actively engage every day through posting and commenting.

Liquidity is a consideration

When it comes to liquidity Hive has more liquidity compared to HBD. The problem with HBD is that it is listed only on a few exchanges. The internal market is there but it will not have enough liquidity for bigger transactions. But the talk is about what is best for holding long term. So liquidity in general shouldn't be an issue here. We can still go for HBD and hold it for the long term.

Even if we want to cash out, there is always the option to wait for 3 days to convert out HBD to Hive on a chain or use the internal market to convert it. There is an HBD stabilizer in place that can drag the price of HBD a little bit but overall the stability remains intact.

Hive is better for active people

For active engagement on the chain, having enough Hive power helps. We could earn from posting, commenting, and voting for others. Though the APR is a little low compared to what would be the APR if it was HBD I would say that it is not very bad. We might as well attract other people and projects if we have big hive power. It increases our reputation on the chain.

There are schemes on Chain where we can automate our votes to either support manual curation by communities or delegate our Hive Power to our favorite projects. These options give us additional options to stay invested long-term without having a need to worry about our funds.

I'm actually a fan of having both. At the current prices, I've converted my HBD into Hive and HP. I feel like the percentage returns will be much higher with Hive from these levels as opposed to HBD. If Hive goes back to even 50 cents, that's almost a double from here. HBD is the fixed 20%. My plan is to ride Hive upwards (hopefully) and then peel some off at different levels to put back into HBD. Hopefully I can build a nice nest egg in HBD without having to use too much of my Hive. In the meantime, I'll get the extra curation power and Hive interest while the prices are low, which means I'll be getting more HP into my account.

It all sounds good in theory. Now hopefully the markets will cooperate at some point this year and we'll see the Hive price rise back to some of it's previous highs.

I've been going back and forth about which is best for me to hold as well. I had been pumping everything into HBD savings, but I started to realize I want to keep my account growing too. I'm trying to split the difference now.

At this moment the hive seems to me very powerful, maybe we will see prices that will never repeat again or we will not see for more years, accumulating hive in these times is the best thing to do.

HBD is also important, after seeing several market collapses, without a doubt, it is a refuge of great value and also to bet on the long term receiving profits.

The answer is probably both, depending on where someone is investing. Hive is down nearly 90% from a year ago. Those that purchased Hive then are not likely to see Hive return to those numbers soon. However, new investors probably are a good point to buy Hive. My goal in 2023 is to maintain my HP (hive) at current levels and put any rewards earned into HBD. If Hive recovers to last year's high, then I might look at converting some Hive to HBD.

Both tokens are okay but it depends on an individual's reason of which one to go for. If we talk about having influence in the ecosystem and attracting big account, then Hive is the best option.

For me, I will continue to stake Hive for this reason why my Hbd will only be used to save and then withdraw anytime.

As always depends upon what one's goals are. One is speculation (along with having a use case) while the other is a fixed income asset.

I actually have both since they each serve different purposes.

Either way, Hive benefits.

If you are thinking of growing your account then Hive wins every day of the week. Having HBD right now makes no financial sense and only when we are back at the ATH levels then yes converting some to HBD is only when I am going to consider this as a safety blanket.

For me it's primarily hive right now. Because I know as hive pumps it's going to hold me a higher vote weight which means more HBD!

There is the bHBD and pHBD pool in CUB/PolyCUB so I don't think the liquidity issue is that large. At least it's way better than trying to use the internal markets without too much slippage. Of course, I am not sure how large the pool is though.

I think both have their pros and cons. HBD is more stable but Hive has more potential like you said. I believe Hive will rebound and that means that the potential gains is a lot higher in Hive.

Bala, can you write a post on the various delegation platforms on hive such as indiaunited, bro, bdcommunity, and which is the top one, etc so that it will be useful for all? Thanks for the advice.

For me, the fun is engaging with others from around the globe in the way of comments and replies. I also love posting as it's a way of leaving a little history for future generations. Whenever I accumulate a decent amount of HBD I will convert those to hive to increase my voting power.

Have a wonderful day.
