Blockchain games as the face of crypto mass adoption - the trillion dollar ecosystem

According to statista, there are over 3.2 billion video games users in the world as of 2023 and an estimate of 3.8 billion coming 2027, so approximate over 400-500 million gamers is expected to be added in only 4 years.

This is quite an interesting number considering that the world based on prior global census and estimates is said to host over 7 billion people, so nearly half the population have played one video game or the other. Similar to DeFi smart investments, of which I've talked about a couple of times to be a huge factor of growth for the cryptocurrency ecosystem considering that unlike blockchain games or any other thing, everybody uses money, thus, everyone seeks ways to grow their wealth sustainably, so a trillion dollar sector is in sight with over 7 billion people locked in, now as with blockchain games, there's over 3.2 billion people being a target audience for the next generation of gaming.

If we look at some other interesting sats, like the number of games that exist in the world, we'd get an estimate of about 831,000 games in the world, now it's most likely that it is significantly much higher than this considering that there are a lot of games that don't get into places like apple or playstore, and some just falls into extinction even when not dead. That said, compared to the total number of games in the world, blockchain games are very limited at the time with an estimate of under 2,000 gaming applications that utilizes blockchain networks.

This indicates how very early we are in the era of blockchain games and thus how far we are from its actual value. The current market value for blockchain games as of 2022 is about 4.6 billion, this is expected to be valued over $104 billion in 2028 and if we consider that blockchain games make up only 0.214% of the estimated games in the world, meaning that there's like over 415x room for growth which would place the sector at a valuation of 1.9 trillion dollars, but realistically judging how assets prices increase, we should actually be looking at over $19 trillion at over 830k same level games as it is now.

Then again, this is a very rough estimate because we're simply on the idea that game concepts will remain exactly the same which is really not true, thus the value capture will be significantly higher. The difference between blockchain games and free to play games is that blockchain games are incentivized and players can attain value for spending hours on games, whereas the reverse is the case for traditional games where both time and money is often spent and nothing aside from entertainment is received.

Blockchain games are in position to set a new economy on gaming that sets gamers up for turning leisure into investments and thus generate and build wealth through these decentralized applications. Considering one more fact which is that blockchain games are inevitably merged with decentralized finance smart investments, the opportunities to build wealth increases significantly and puts the cryptocurrency industry at large in a position to pave the way for a new age of exponentially growing value economies.

Yeah there’s a bunch of decent games out there, like Splinterlands. I was playing LightNite almost everyday during quarantine when it was still on Steam. I’m surprised I don’t hear more about it but there’s also some great-looking titles on the Hive community too: Psyber-x shooter, D Crops, Terracore, that new Serfs and Sorcery game. There’s also that 2140 zombie Bitcoin-shooter. I wonder if it’s easier to launch these titles then maintain them, but it’s amazing how much work people are willing to do. I saw someone post an ad for Illuvium on Twitter. Just need more mainstream ads and adoption, like MSM ads or endorsements. Too bad about that Mayweather situation, hopefully more celebrities endorse good projects in the future.
