Pugad Beach Is Like Kimchi

Have you ever asked yourself why do Koreans love kimchi so much? If you ask a Korean, they'll tell you that it's an acquired taste.

The same thing can be said with Pugad beach. It's really not the typical beach that you would see in other people's blog. It doesn't have white sand or fancy restaurants where you can order gourmet dishes. It's your typical everyday Filipino beach.

Pugad beach is located in Lianga, a small town in the province of Surigao del Sur.

But don't get me wrong, just because it's nowhere near the beauty of Boracay island it doesn't mean you won't enjoy your time here. Aside from the cool breeze and the really murky waters, it also has entertainment like live bands.

And by live bands what I mean is there's a karaoke in almost every cottage. And everybody wants to sing their heart's out.

Although, I'm not really sure if you would be entertained by it when one guy is singing a love song and the other is playing a death metal song.

Also, if you have fire dancers in Boracay then Pugad has the "Badjaos" who dances to the beat of their make shift drums.

But what really makes Pugad beach popular to the common Juan is its accessibility and affordability. It's only a 40-minute ride from my hometown and the cottages here can go for as low as 300 pesos ($6).

But why do we keep coming back to this ugly little paradise that we call "Pugad"?

It's because of the memories that we have shared with family and friends over the years. Countless funny and sad moments that has been saved in our memories and flashes back to you everytime you come back.

My father has been coming back over and over to this beach ever since he was a little boy. Something that has been passed on to him..

..which he has passed on to me..

and is being passed on to this little guy who's enjoying his Kalbaro.

After you're done swimming in Pugad beach it is customary that you dip in Wakat cave before going home.

I must warn you, the water that is coming out from the mouth of the cave is very cold.

Pugad beach reminds me a little of Rockaway Beach in Queens N.Y.C. (plain and simple) where I grew up.

By the way... since you also mention Kimchi... I have Korean family members and I'm still in the process of 'acquiring' a taste for it; only because it is a healthy side-dish😣

😂😂😂 I just don't get it. It's really spicy and i don't even know how to describe it. But Koreans are Koreans. That's them and this is me.

Love it! Regular beaches where locals visit and memories are made are much nicer than touristy places. I would love it here.

Thank you for sharing and best wishes :-)
