Back to the workshop

Today I looked back and realized it's been so many months since I did some shoemaking. Shoemaking was my entry point into the hive blockchain, and without it I may not be here. I'm sure I've said it more than once before, but when I first joined hive I didn't think I'd be able to make posts that anyone would read, and that would actually get any upvotes. That was until I started learning shoe making.

I felt this would be interesting content to share and I started my hive journey. With time I've been able to branch out and somewhat touch and ignite the writer I never knew I had within me all while engaging and making friends. A couple days ago I showed one of my cousins who Is very good at writing one of my posts and she was surprised how much improvement I've made compared to when I joined hive.

Over the last couple of months I stopped shoemaking. It wasn't an instant stop, it happened gradually. At first I realized I was reluctant to go to the workshop. It was either I went late or I just didn't go at all. Then my teacher got some higher paying gig and diverted his attention from me. This gave me more space to not go to the workshop because I knew If I did there'd be no one to attend to my questions. At the time I was working on a difficult shoe that I'd never made before and little to no supervision made it take long and also made it frustrating.

RNFetchBlobTmp_n38sr6mwsvcmmpq6v4om6i.jpg

Eventually I stopped going and kept the project aside. Funny enough my teacher didn't call or message to ask why I wasn't coming in anymore, so It made it easier for me as I didn't need to explain myself. At the time I was already branching out on hive and posting about different things, so stopping shoemaking didn't really affect my posting.

After getting fed up with hearing "Why aren't you making shoes anymore?" Last week I decided I'd resume going to the workshop, I procrastinated and next thing I knew It was Wednesday. I decided I'd just wait till the weekend and resume this Monday. But Monday came and some urgent family issue came up and took all my attention till yesterday. I initially said I'd just go next Monday, but I changed my mind and went there today.

I am very glad I did, I didn't realize how much I'd missed the choking yet beautiful smell of adhesive (gum), the revving sound of the filing machine, the sound of hammers and mallets banging on the leather that's placed on the wooden surface, I was finally back.

I spoke with my teacher about the lack of attention and he assured me he'll be available as of now. I also told him I'd have to do some revisit to what I've learned before and he agreed. So today I was able to get some materials and began working on a pair of slippers for myself. My previous one spoiled and though I can repair it I'd rather make another one. I'm currently still working on it, but hopefully I'll be able to complete it and share it with you soon.

RNFetchBlobTmp_n38sr6mwsvcmmpq6v4om6i.jpg

I have to admit that though I've missed shoemaking a lot and would probably have somewhat mastered it with the time I spent away, I do not regret the decision I made. With the time I took away from shoemaking I was able to focus on hive. I was able to engage more than I ever could, I managed to reach into my head and have ideas and write them down in form of posts, I was able to delve into blockchain gaming, I was able to focus on my account growth, I learnt a lot about the hive block chain, in essence the time I took away wasn't wasted, but well spent in my opinion.

RNFetchBlobTmp_n38sr6mwsvcmmpq6v4om6i.jpg

Now that I'm back to shoemaking doesn't mean I would stop doing all of these things, it simply means I'll have to find a balance. I'm hoping I can find that balance as soon as possible. Thanks for reading.

I look forward to reading more of your shoe making posts and I hope you get to balance that with being a writer on Hive. I have a feeling I’ll find myself looking forward to your blogs a lot in the future.

Since I’m new on Hive, I have interest in Blockchain gaming too, particularly splinterlands. I’ve seen tons of posts about it in the splinterlands community but nothing seems to make sense to me. Maybe you can point me in the right direction where to start with it. You could also just tell me how you got into it as newbie when you started. That’d be much better and a lot more interesting.

Funny enough though I've delved into blockchain gaming I'm yet to try splinterlands but I think if you join the splinterlands discord server your questions will be answered.

Hopefully you'll be able to find a balance to work on your shoe making and also be on hive too. If you have passion for it , you can still go back to it, and I would say that all the shoes you displayed here are looking good..

I came across through dreemport and I wish, have a nice time ahead.

Perhaps you needed that time away not just for Hive but also because your brain was likely tired of the same thought processes and needed a change which you gave it!
Came in through Dreemport!

Very true to an extent. Though I was majorly frustrated by how things that were supposed to be easy weren't because I wasn't always getting proper guidance.

I am certain that you will be able to manage your time properly, I have a brother who makes shoes as well.

There was a day I was teasing him about the job being easy and at the end of the day, I was unable to cut off the sole on a card. He only laughed at me and but I wasn't willing to learn, it could have been a hot spot for me now.

Shoe making is definitely not as easy as it looks when you're watching someone do it. Too bad you didn't learn It. But I'm sure you used that time to do something else that was also great. Thanks for stopping by 😊

Hope you're enjoying your weekend

"long live the shoe!"
Yes it has been a good weekend, watched Rangers against Spurs, I tell you what, two awesome finishes from Harry Kane to beat us, he may well be back to his best, will need to see what his fantasy price is!

Ohh, that makes sense.

He's the same price as haaland 10.5 or so. I think I'll replace him with haaland as haaland may get rotated by pep

Ah I need to see the prices, I still think Haaland is really at City to try and win the Champions League so yeah he might be rotated quite a lot!

How very wonderful @b0s. I had heard previously that you used to make shoes and I think it is such a wonderful artisanal craft in which to be involved. I personally know the joy of returning to something that fed my soul and from which I had taken a longer-than-expected break. I wish you all the very best and am sure you will find a balance that works for you and enables you to appreciate both the art of writing and the craft of footwear.

Does @dreemsteem know that you are back creating in the workshop again?

I came to your post via Dreemport.

hehe...well perhaps she does now !LOLZ

I have returned to two things in my life... one was martial arts - karate to be exact... it was such a big part of my teen years... I worked hard at honing the skills and especially the beauty of kata... but with final high school years and then University...I had to take a break for a bit as I had been doing hours of lessons each day and I did not feel I could give less than I was giving... so it was all or nothing for me at the time... I went back for a year while at University but it just didn't work out... and then... I found it again a few years ago and joined a karate school and trained there until covid... but my sensei moved to Oman... and is still there...and closed his school here because of covid...sad... and they were the family outside of my relatives that I visited every week and found community and love and lots of bruised and fractured ribs hahaha. But I miss them... and then during covid...I returned to writing... an absolute love of mine... and I found community and family online here again. Those little loves of ours that tug us time and again...the ones we cannot ignore... karate, writing... your shoe making :-) and through them we find something so rewarding...and oftentimes get so much more than we bargained for !LUV !ALIVE !PIZZA

Oh wow, now I'm imagining you doing a karate chop 🥋. So sad they had to close cause of covid, hopefully some other time you guys get to meet each other again even if it's outside of martial arts. I'm glad you're back to writing as it's through this we've met.

Everyone has something in which he/she enjoys quality time. It's for exploration purposes and I am glad to see your creativity in shoemaking. Why do you always go with black leather, any creative stuff for delicate feet 😁

Wow you love the noise of machine and that adhesive smell haha - love with passion hehe.

Hehe it's just now I'm realizing almost all my works are black, I can only think of one work that was brown (blacks brother). Even the one I just made is black, lol(I'll be posting soon). I'll keep this in mind next time.

love with passion hehe.

Love indeed 😁

I don't know what your writing used to be like but I'm impressed with what you've written in this post.

There is something about creating, whether it's through writing or making shoes, that opens up the soul (or in your case, maybe sole would be a better choice of word). Your workshop looks like a beautiful space for creativity. The beautiful high ceilings and light coming in from those windows remind me of classrooms I've both learnt and taught in. You're a very talented cordwainer.

I'm glad you appreciate my writing. Creating Indeed opens up the sole, lol

Your workshop looks like a beautiful space for creativity.

Oh no, this is not my workshop, it's just an image from Unsplash. I doubt our workshop can look this nice, but it does resemble a classroom as well.

How ypu explained the sensation of your shoemaking work place, I can imagine how fulfilling the experience of going back would be.

Sometimes, taking reak is important and help us grow. When we take shift from a work we come to know about many other things. We find the new realms. We even find hidden talents within us. As in your case, your hive journey let you explore that you were not not skilled at shoe making but there is also a hidden writer within. It is a step towards self actualization.

Your hive journey has been so successful that there is no point of feeling regretful for taking a break from shoemaking. Now when ypu have returned, I am sure you would find a balance and keep on giving us some wonderful shoe designs.

You know who brought me to your post, yes, DREEMPORT. 😀

Yeah taking a break can help one discover parts of themselves they never knew existed.

I am sure you would find a balance and keep on giving us some wonderful shoe designs.

Of course I will. I just made one right now which I'm planning to share, though I don't feel it's all too wonderful.
