Back in the second half of 1990s, Natalie Imbruglia from Australia became popular through her song "Torn". That song was actually recorded by a number of artists beforehand, but her version became the most notable one.

"Torn" became a global hit reaching number 1 in many countries, while it also reached the top spot for many weeks on Billboard Hot 100 Airplay chart. It also gave attention on her album "Left of the Middle" go to the top 10.

The angst on Natalie Imbruglia's music was felt through her song "Big Mistake", which even sounds like Alanis Morissette, who had just became a global superstar from her album "Jagged Little Pill". "Big Mistake" wasn't able to replicate the success of her debut single, but it reached the top 10 in some countries including number 2 in UK Singles Chart.

"Wishing I Was There" was the third single, but it wasn't able to come close to the success of "Torn". In fact, it only peaked at number 19 in UK Singles Chart, but it reached the top 15 of Billboard Mainstream chart.

"Smoke" was the fourth single, and it was her return to the top 5 of UK Singles Chart.

Natalie Imbruglia took some time to come back, as she admitted fame affected her health especially mentally. She released her second album in 2001, which didn't do quite well. Her succeeding albums didn't sell well too. Still, she was once a big star.
