Hey guys,
Just a quick (and late) review of the Splinterlands latest update on game economy. And a little bit of suggestions which I think would benefit most (the game and players).

DEC Ranked Battle Reward Update

Starting shortly after the end of the current ranked play season on Thursday, September 30th, 2021, the DEC rewards given out for a ranked battle win will be based on the minimum of the winning player's current rating and the maximum rating for their current league within the game.

For example, if a player's ranked battle rating is currently 2,500 and they are in the Silver I league, then when they win a ranked battle their DEC reward will be based on a rating of 1,899 (the maximum rating for the Silver I league).

~ This is a nice update since it is a little bit confusing if a GOLD 3 player is earning lesser DEC than a SILVER 1 player since ranking up means you have a better share of rewards.

Loot Chests Rewards for Bronze/Novice League

The new percentage breakdown of receiving the different types of rewards based on league are shown in the table below:

LeagueCardDECCreditsPotion
Bronze III / Novice10%0%45%45%
Bronze II20%0%40%40%
Bronze I30%0%35%35%
Silver III +50%25%0%25%

The change from DEC to Credits is necessary to prevent a similar restructuring from happening in the future if the external market price of DEC tokens significantly rises again, and the reduction in the chance of receiving a card is necessary to reduce the rate at which the new reward cards are being "farmed" by accounts with little to no in-game assets being held.

~ Changing DEC to credits is a nice step so players who just wants to farm DEC to a certain amount and withdraw immediately can become a contributor to the economy. They cannot withdraw credits but they can:

  • use it to buy in game assets and it will be their judgment if they want to hold the it or sell it.
  • Or use it to rent for additional power to move up rank and further increase their rewards.

~ Also changing the Card rate of Bronze league is a good way to lessen the capabilities of bots on just farming cards and saturating the market with new reward cards.

SUGGESTIONS

~ In my point of view of the update, most "Nerfs" on the rewards on Bronze league are focused on 2 groups, the "bots" & those who just sells everything they can get their hands on.

Let's cover the "Bots" first.

I think Bots should not have a huge advantage over humans in playing the game. Sadly, humans have the innate weakness of needing to rest (e.g. Sleep, Eat, maybe poop). Bots might need to rest but the resting time and frequency of bots are not nearly as long as humans. With that said, since in this game there are no energy requirements to play and can be played 24/7/365, they could implement a sort of "Daily Login Limit" or in this games case a "Battle Limit" in which if a certain player reaches certain number of battles within a given time, the battle limit would take place and let the player rest for a while.

Example:
Battle Limit = 200* battles within 12hrs, if limit reached a 12hrs "Resting time" will be restricting the account on entering battles. Resting time would also be beneficial to players for their mental and physical health.

*Using 200 is reasonable, 200 battles x (3 minutes per play plus 30 seconds looking for opponent) is 11hrs and 40minutes.

~One drawback would be if you want to or needed to play for brawl and tournaments. Maybe putting a "Battle Limit Counter" somewhere in the battle page to let them know how many battles left before the Resting time triggers.

Those who sells everything they can get their hands on

We cannot deny their right to earn in this game since this is a play-to-earn game. They do provide the cheapest game assets in the market but holding in-game assets are good for the entirety of the game. But non-players sentiments on entering the game might be negative if they saw a sharply falling token values on exchanges and might stop them from entering and playing Splinterlands. Suggestions would be:

  • Maybe put a cooldown period in which newly acquired items (e.g. Cards, packs) cannot be tokenize, a short 24hrs can suffice.
  • And a withdrawal limit for DEC in comparison with the highest DEC held by that account. 10%-50% of the highest DEC held can be withdrawn weekly.

~ I do hope everything I said is clear enough to be understand. I greatly appreciates the efforts given by the Splinterlands team to make the game better and better. These are merely suggestions from a player who have high hopes for the game. Thanks 😁
