Process in pictures - Proceso en imágenes

It's been a while since I've worked with textures, and I've always liked them, like epic designs. Perhaps because, until now, I expressed many of the emotions I felt through art, things that happened to me on a daily basis, and often art itself helped me to reflect, think and even see things from another point of view.

Artists capture moods, messages we want to convey, and things we have learned in life in our works. As it is something graphic, we don't need to speak, but rather the works speak for us, even expressing thoughts in the works.

Today, I simply let my imagination run wild and went back to the days when I used to make designs with textures, playing around with them a little. As I love nature themes, I wanted to try mixing textures of old, torn paper with flowers, with a natural background and a face. Feminine. It may not be anything extraordinary, but I liked feeling at one with that natural environment and the colours that emanate from it, mixing the range of greens with ochres and some colour for the flowers. I simply let myself go without thinking too much, following my inspiration.

Design process

I created the design entirely in Photoshop CS6 with seven images in fourteen layers, without using AI.

To create the background, I used three images of nature that were quite similar in style. I placed the first one on one side of the design, the second on the opposite side, and with a layer mask, I merged them with the gradient tool. Then I put the third one in the middle, erasing the noticeable edges, and placed the lighter colour blend. On top of this, I put the green texture with the darker colour blend.

Then I worked on the woman's face in five layers, one of which is just the face and another just the hair. The blends used were: soft light, darker colour, overlay, normal, and lighter colour. The layer of the woman's face without the hair is the one with the normal blend. I added brightness and an edge filter. I did the same thing on the hair layer, but with less pronounced edges.

I duplicated the texture layer and placed parts of it over the woman's face with the overlay blend. Then I used the image of the old, torn paper and placed it on the woman's forehead and one side of her face, using the darkest colour blend and erasing the excess.

Using the same blend, I completed the design by placing the flower image in two layers on the woman's skin and flipping one of the layers horizontally to place it on her hair.

The animation is done completely in After Effects, working on the opacity of each layer and adding lights in the form of clouds for better contrast.

Hace tiempo que no trabajaba con texturas y eso siempre me ha gustado, como los diseños épicos. Quizá porque hasta el momento, a través del arte expresaba muchas emociones que sentía, cosas que me pasaban en el día a día y muchas veces el mismo arte me servía para reflexionar, pensar y hasta para ver las cosas desde otro punto de vista.

Los artistas plasmamos en las obras estados de ánimo, mensajes que queremos dar, cosas que hemos aprendido en la vida. Al ser algo gráfico, no necesitamos hablar, sino que las obras hablan por nosotros, hasta se manifiestan pensamientos en las obras.

Hoy simplemente hice volar mi imaginación y volver a los tiempos en que realizaba diseños con texturas, jugando un poco con ellas y como me encantan los temas de naturaleza quise probar mezclar texturas de papel viejo y quebrado con flores, con un fondo natural y un rostro. Femenino. Tal vez no sea nada extraordinario, pero me gustó sentirme una con ese ambiente natural y los colores que de él se desprenden, mezclando la gama de los verdes con los ocres y algún color para las flores. Simplemente me dejé llevar sin pensar mucho, lo que la inspiración me indicara.

Proceso del diseño

El diseño lo realicé enteramente en Photoshop CS6 con siete imágenes en catorce capas, sin usar IA.

Para crear el fondo usé tres imágenes de naturaleza que fueran bastante similares en estilo, coloqué la primera en un lado del diseño, la segunda en el lado contrario y con una máscara de capa las fusioné con la herramienta degradado. Luego puse la tercera en medio borrando los bordes notorios y la coloqué la fusión de color más claro. Sobre esto puse la textura color verde con la fusión de color más oscuro.

Luego trabajé el rostro de la mujer en cinco capas, en donde una de ellas es sólo el rostro y otra sólo el cabello. Las fusiones usadas fueron: luz suave, color más oscuro, superponer, normal y color más claro. La capa del rostro de la mujer sin el cabello es la que tiene fusión normal, le agregué brillo y un filtro de bordes añadidos. En la capa del cabello hice lo mismo, pero con bordes menos acentuados.

Dupliqué la capa de la textura y coloqué partes de ella sobre el rostro de la mujer con la fusión de superponer. Luego usé la imagen del papel viejo y quebrado y lo situé en la frente de la mujer y un lado del rostro, usé la fusión de color más oscuro y borré el sobrante.

Usando la misma fusión completé el diseño colocando la imagen de las flores en dos capas sobre la piel de la mujer y en una de las capas la volteé horizontalmente para colocarla sobre el cabello.

La animación está realizada completamente en After Effects, trabajando la opacidad de cada capa y agregando luces en forma de nubes para un mejor contraste.
