Majestic and imposing Cathedral at night 📷 Malaga - Spain

One of the buildings that has caught my attention the most since I arrived in this city is the city's Cathedral called Santa Iglesia Catedral Basílica de la Encarnación.

01.jpg

It is absolutely imposing and although I visited it a few months after arriving in 2018, it was a very quick visit. For this reason I have a more detailed and in-depth tour pending. Inside there are many fantastic works of art that I would like to appreciate in detail, for their artistic and historical value.

IMG_20231026_005047.jpgIMG_20231026_005106.jpg

This time I bring you the incredible views of this beauty of renaissance architecture on a night walk I have taken.

Always illuminated at night, the contrast with the dark sky, makes the Cathedral stand out and shine in all its splendour.

IMG_20231026_005136.jpgIMG_20231026_005306.jpg

IMG_20231026_005311.jpg

Construction of the cathedral began in the 16th century, but it was abandoned until it was taken up again in the 18th century due to possible serious deterioration.

However, the work was never finished, it was taken up again many times, but it is still unfinished today.

IMG_20231026_005157.jpg

IMG_20231026_005130.jpg

When the reconstruction was resumed around 1780, the funds were derived from port taxes, since at that time the trade with America was carried out. However, due to the need for other works, especially roads and water, the budget initially earmarked for the Cathedral was diverted to these other works.

IMG_20231026_005548.jpg

Thus, it was left unfinished and although the most noticeable thing is the lack of the tower facing south, there are other details and decorations that, according to the initial plans, need to be carried out.

This lack of the south tower is the reason why the Cathedral is called "La Manquita", and this also generates its rarity and tourist attraction.

IMG_20231026_005514.jpg

IMG_20231026_005602.jpg

IMG_20231026_005622.jpg

Although it is still a long way from completion, it is one of the greatest Renaissance symbols of all Andalusia.

I personally consider that its beauty stands out, especially at night, on its exterior façade.

IMG_20231026_005703.jpgIMG_20231026_005811.jpg

I walked all around it, capturing the whole of it, and I was able to see the whole of the façade, which covers a large surface area. I walked all around it, capturing all its beauty by night in photographs.

The details of its fabulous architecture are much more noticeable, highlighting each decoration of that renaissance style, which makes it unique.

IMG_20231026_005946.jpgIMG_20231026_005927.jpgIMG_20231026_010013.jpg

The Cathedral is one of the most visited sites by tourists and tours from all over the world have it on their itinerary.

These night views of the Cathedral surrounded by other buildings such as the Bishop's Square and the Episcopal Museum fill it with magic. In addition, the streets were practically empty at that time of day, creating an atmosphere of mystery around it.

It has several gates through which to enter, although the one to the north is where the tourist visits take place. It has a very beautiful courtyard, plants and sculptures.

At the time of walking around the place everything was closed, but that did not detract from its charm.

No matter from which angle you looked at this beautiful building, they were all perfect and beautiful. The tower always stood out in the moonlight.

A great architectural beauty in Renaissance style that stands out among those found in the Andalusian Community as one of the most imposing.

I have yet to visit its interior, which is truly amazing and fantastic, both for the sculptures, decorations and the great amount of art contained in it.

But its exterior façade in night views is something that fascinated me. Majestic and imposing in the quiet and lonely Malaga night under the light of the enigmatic moon.

Thank you all for joining me on this walk. Best regards to all of you and see you next time.

What a delight for the eyes, these night shots, I love the position in which you took the shots.

The architecture of this church is impressive, its shape and style is truly majestic, in addition to the rich history that you tell us.

Beautiful photographs, dear friend @avdesing, thank you very much for showing us this beautiful church.
